Evening, I come here to present an idea. Some unique, perhaps different and interesting. To be blunt, the idea is to get away from the idea of a simple space station, and move to a ground based installation. Please, read this with careful thought, and post your opinions and ideas as replies (a constructive reply will serve me miles better than a simple, "I like," or "+1", keep this in mind), as this decision will shape our server immensely. First off, the main part of the new worksite would be a ground based installation, built out of prefabricated modules onto a planet undergoing terraforming. Present in the compound would be a maglev train track, your connection to HQ, and a space elevator, your connection to the outposts in orbit above the base. The secondary parts of the workstation, which in the current build are known as the outposts, would be linked to a central satellite orbiting the planet. This central satellite is connected to the main base with a space elevator. That there is the basic idea, allow me to provide a list of planned features: - A new design to the base (an entirely different method of construction, actually);
- A new design for the outposts (to be located in an orbital debris field?);
- A space elevator connecting the outposts to the base, which is destructable, should you sabotage three of the four tethers;
- Central Command to be replaced by a planetary headquarters (to which the base is connected by maglev trains);
- A new engine (SM or something third);
- Rapid deployment craft to access outposts incase of emergency (will require plasma or other fuel);
- Clandestine LZs for Vox and Syndicate craft;
- Droppods for the Syndicate shuttle;
- A toxic atmosphere for the planet.
These would be the main features and changes I have in mind right now. They should all be feasible, as long as we are allowed time.
As far as implementation would go, the above-listed are the prereqs for launching. The main strain would be on mappers, followed by coders. A few stray icons would be required as well. It would take presence over the majority of the suggested projects, and would take time, obviously.
So... Thoughts?

First, a few queries from my side, if I may...
So, seeing as NSS Aurora would no longer be a space station, is a change in name in order? Like, NSF (Nanotrasen Science Facility) Aurora? And will the space station still remain in the lore? Will there be a actual story behind the change of scenery (station was bombed, NT has no more interests in hard-to-manage space facilities?)? And will there be anything special about the planet? Like cool predators or giant worms or something... I'm sure - have a bunch of other questions but I can't find 'em now.
Now- for my opinion on this. I actually think it'd be quite nice. I won't have to worry about flying infinitely in one direction should I slip off the station's hull while EVA... But I also think it makes more sense. A ground-based facility is cheaper to maintain and such than a hugely expensive space station. I'm also liking the idea of being able to have battles or secret meetings out in the toxic enviroment- given the right suit to wear (Oh yes, another question, since it'd just be a toxic atmosphere would a person be safe equipped with just a gas mask? Or is a oxy tank needed? Or will a whole suit be needed?). All in all, I like the idea a lot. Not to mention the cool new stuff science will be able to do.

I am wholly and entirely for this. Nothing would please me more then us having a more interesting roleplay to have, and this is that.
I can see some potential for this, if we can make the levels tiled and not random. Have a bunch of random stuff out in the planet, the ends of the levels have massive mountains or the like blocking you from making a near infinite amount of levels, and would allow some small amusement.
If possible, you could add in a "housing section" with temporary homes that have a bed, a locker and some random items, with doors that open via ID locks.
Add in some more random life forms, not hostile but friendly, if you'd like to take that route.
I'd put my entire weight as an insane writer who plays a transgender Tajara behind this.

I'd support this, if the name of this planetary based outpost is not Aurora, due to the fact that Aurora was the name intended for the outpost on the asteroid(an idea which was crushed after many of the original staff left) and instead you come up with a new name for it, obviously the server would still be Aurora but it would be nice for people to RP.
Second I see a few issues, back when I coded I distinctly remember that the tiles used for ground could not have anything placed on them, and they could not be altered, obviously if these issues were fixed the idea would work quite well, ASWELL as the fact that there are in game ladders that I think could be made good use of.
Ok that's all.

Ladders won't be used, there won't be a second level, and you're not going to climb, literally, kilometres up into space.
Also, I'm not following the name issue. The server is set as Aurora, sooo... Why not?

I support this wholeheartedly. I've always wanted to RP on a ground installation instead of in space. It offers quite a few more opportunities for RP.
Now, the toxic air wouldn't function like space, would it? Would you be able to go outside in a gasmask with an oxy tank and not get crushed by pressure?
Would there be vegetation out on the planet? Gas, trees? Would there be weather conditions (perhaps to replace random events, such as super-lightning storms acid rain, or windstorms?)
Wildlife would be very cool, and depending on how big we're making the ground map, there could maybe be set dens for wildlife (rabid alien wolf dens, anyone?). It would be a welcome change from the same old space carp.
Changes to leisure facilities on the station would be interesting. Perhaps the bar could be placed in a plexiglass dome, where visitors can view the outside at their leisure?
Better yet, at the center of the installation, a "park" surrounded by a sort of terraforming field dome, allowing our characters some actual time outside without suits or masks. The park could contain familiar earth-like wildlife (birds and rabbits, maybe), a fountain, and some benches?
Security could also possibly be changed somewhat to fit the more gritty structure of a planetary outpost. They could recieve one or two hovercycles that function like janicarts, which allow them to zip around on the outside landscape at a speed (though they must also be refueled with welder fuel or plasma). Lethal injection could be replaced with exiling a prisoner in to the outside with only a gasmask and an oxygen tank.
In addition, the position "captain", would probably cease to exist. Instead, replace him with something more "on the ground" sounding- expedition leader or outpost leader or something like that.
As for the name of the place, how about it's changed to "Aurora Mk.II"?

Oh, and I feel that if this goes through, all effort should be directed at it instead of our other projects- this is much more important.

Sounds awesome. I'd like to see some caves. Maybe, if we go with exiling bad people, add makeshift weapons like spears craftable from branches and stones, field cooking with camp fires, wild berries and so on. The weapons would be to defend theirself from wildlife.

For the space elevator to the satellite above, would it be akin to shuttles, moving between two points?

I don't think Nanotrasen would risk letting people live in the wild, and would probably stick to their normal execution methods..

Can there be a /legitimate/ government on the planet that this operation resides on? The SOP shouldn't apply anymore considering it is no longer a vessel.

Nanotrasen is not a governmental faction, they are a business corporation. Their rules would apply everywhere they saw fit. The only real difference one would see is the escalation between civilian and military work areas.

Can there be a /legitimate/ government on the planet that this operation resides on? The SOP shouldn't apply anymore considering it is no longer a vessel. Military bases have specific SOPs established. Like: wear a bulletproof vest and carry a rifle (can be unloaded) at all times. So, SOP is sticking. As is Space Law. As is NanoTrasen.

Oh oh!! Add spessships and pew pew pew! Like, pods with mining equipment. Maybe military/security pods too wich got laser/pulse/ballistic weaponry and syndicate drones around the debris field. And A new derelict?
