Forgive me for such a vague event posting, I am currently on a tablet, and I am unable to get on a computer of any sort at the moment! First of all, I would like to apologize for my inactivity these past two weeks, It's been very busy for me! I would like to make up for it with a classic Alien event.
You're probably thinking that this will just be a murder fest, but I promise that I'll try to moderate it as best I can. The event will be extremely story-driven, and will strive to offer a "tight corridor" type of feeling which will give you that ominous theme an Alien event should have. It'll start off slow, and then build up the suspense as the available characters (you; the players) shape the story.
The event will be hosted on March 29th, at about 3:00 PM EST time. Any specific suggestions for the event should be posted under this announcement. I'll tidy up this thread once I'm on my computer, which will be after 6 PM EST on Friday this week. Any questions and concerns can be addressed here or in my email, tenerleore@gmail.com. I will also translate the different times for you tomorrow.
Additionally, I've added a poll, which will determine the next event I ever happen to host.
Event Summary: An unidentified lifeform is discovered on the asteroid in a coma stature. Frozen within some sort of liquid cavity; a web of sorts, it is brought back to the NSS Aurora for research. A report is sent to Central Command, and just so as they return the favor with strict orders, strange, ominous events begin to occur in and around the station's enclosed corridors and interior...
Just posting this to see what people would like to see hosted on the server on occasion! Vote up!

suggestion: make a DS come in, and get brutally murdered and respawn as their normal chars, just to show how dangerous these aliens are.

Oh, and my suggestion for the next event you host is an alien-changeling frozen in ice found on the asteroid.

Well, I feel like most of these will turn into gank-fests, which, aliums, lings, whatever, usually ends up as. People get brutally murdered, with little to no roleplay, alium players get angry because they aren't allowed to attack people on sight, but security usually can. I feel nations/colonies are usually the best for roleplay, as it keeps players as players.

As I mentioned in the thread, I'm going to try my best for it not to become a gank fest. It won't be the usual Alien events hosted. There will be a single hunter on board, with a story-driven background to the whole ordeal. And I'll be following whoever plays the only Alien on board. I like it this way, because they can't get facehuggers. It stays true to the first movie as well, focusing on depth and story-telling, rather than action. It also helps with ganking, seeing as Aliens with facehuggers just pick them up and throw them at crewmembers!

The event was hosted, and it went well. I've added a new option to the poll upon further experimentation and confirmation of such a possibility.

Nations can be fun, it can also turn into a gankfest. Depends on the players.

Though zambles is amazing when done properly, I will remain true to the Pirate Federation. Because sexy pirate captain's...There's a long story behind it.

I ran a successful zombies event once. It's feasible, provided you don't have a bald sec officer who joins mid-round and goes Rambo.

Booyah; colony is my jam.
I could run that event all day every day. Moving everyone to the asteroid, then depressurizing the station and filling it with a selection of monsters most players never see outside of test servers...
The best part is, in order to survive, the crew have to organize scavenging parties to quickly move to the station, gather up supplies, and then get back on the asteroid before the combined power of all the hosts of Hell converge upon them.
The fun never ends.

What's colony? And I adore the idea of nations, but have never been around to see one in action. Requesting nations!!

What's colony? And I adore the idea of nations, but have never been around to see one in action. Requesting nations!! Colony has many forms, but the main idea is this: Some cataclysmic event threatens the station, and the entire crew is given a ten to fifteen minute window to grab what supplies they can and book it for the asteroid. After the timer reaches zero, the disaster occurs, and the station is rendered inhospitable. (This can be accomplished by one to two admins strategically depressurizing key areas, destroying the power grid, etc.) With everyone on the asteroid, things tend to go downhill. In such a cramped setting, tensions flare, arguments are started, and lines are drawn. Strangely enough, this phenomenon happens without staff encouragement. However, despite the social issues that crop up during the event, the crew must still act with some level of cohesion if it wishes to survive. Scouting parties to the station have to be organized in order to scavenge much needed food, tools, and medicine, and if the round persists long enough, CentComm will step in and demand that the station be brought back to semi-working condition. Take note, though, that the event usually doesn't need a staff chosen goal - RP ends up creating a host of other outcomes, for example, (and I've seen all of these happen in prior colony rounds): gang wars sprout up over control of the mining and science outposts, martial law is established, with the captain becoming a tyrant and using sec to ensure dominance, and even rebuilding projects are formed, led by small sects of crewmembers determined to live on the station once more. I've seen cargo rebuilt and re-purposed as a sort of safe haven and jumping off point for forays into the hostile station, science being refurbished and used to create weapons to revolt against sec, and so on and so forth. All in all, it's by far my favorite event, and the one I'm most proficient at running. The potential for roleplay in this one is unparalleled, because there are no antags or immediate threat. There's only the cabin fever created by life on the outposts and the ever looming, husked station, tempting survivors back to grab medkits, multitools, and even the contents of the armory.

Um... sorry to rain on your parade, but I've never seen a colony round that did any of what you just outlined. Everyone sits around on the outposts moaning about how they don't have the stuff they do on the station.
