Below is a copy of the open report sent to NanoTrasen Central Command by Research Director Preston Metzer following the conclusion of some pharmaceutical tests.
TO: Central Command, NMSS Odin
FROM: NSS Aurora, Research Director
SUBJECT: Results of pharmaceutical clinical field trials on human subjects
BODY:
To whom it may concern,
During my time on the NSS Aurora, I received consent from a human crew member in the medical department, a Mister Vittorio Giurifiglio, to use him as a test subject for the administering of various chemical concotions in the form of two pharmaceutical pills. The subject was compensated 1000 credits, from my personal account, for each test administered. Full consent forms were obtained from the subject, and I can send copies of them if necessary.
The first test was on the effects of an equal combination of Mindbreaker Toxin, Space Drugs, and Unstable Mutagen on the human system. The purpose of this experiment was to test the effects of a popular and potent drug concoction on a human subject. This particular combination has proven to be very popular among criminal elements in the galaxy. The concoction is known as "Wheel of Fortune" or "Fortune" on the popular market, for its properties of random genetic mutation in the subject, accompanied by powerful hallucinations and a strong high.
When administered to Mr. Giurifiglio, he initially reported a pleasant high full of flashing colors; an effect presumably arising from the Space Drugs. He then reported terrifying visions of being attacked by a local traveller, and of holding various weapons in his hands. This, I believe, to be an effect of the Mindbreaker Toxin. Following this, his body began to shift strangely, and he began collapsing in pain. Shortly afterward, the subject expired due to levels of high toxicity. It can be surmised that this was a result of the relatively significant levels of Unstable Mutagen in his bloodstream. Following his death, the subject was swiftly cloned without incident and in a
healthy state. He was summarily treated of all cloning-related injuries and compensated for his participation.
From this we can surmise that the likely composition of the street variant of Wheel of Fortune is not comprised of equal amounts of its chemical parts, but of a proportioned ratio of these substances. The most likely ration being 10:3:1 of Space Drugs to Mind Breaker Toxin, to Unstable Mutagen, repsectively. Equal portions appear to lead to death in the user, and a small amount of Unstable Mutagen would achieve the desired effect without the risk of death. Similarly low levels of Mind Breaker Toxin would prevent the hallucinations and side effects from getting out of hand.
The subject agreed to a second test following his cloning. This test involved the administration of an equal combination of Plasma, Lexorin, Thermite, Chlorine, Polytrinic Acid, and Sulphuric Acid in the form of a pharmaceutical pill. The purpose of this test was to
gauge the survival capabilities of a human subject when exposed to such a concoction.
When administered, Mister Giurifiglio immediately reported severe pain, called for medical attention, and began collapsing, bleeding,
and vomitting. I immediately summoned a member of the science staff trained in medicine to arrive at the scene with necessary medical equipment. However, she arrived too late. The subject had already expired. Interestingly enough, the subject appeared to have suffered brute damage, burn damage, and suffocation damage, as well as the usual toxin damage. This is most shocking to see when a subject has been administered a pill, as normally only toxin damage would be expected. The subject was noted to have grown deep cuts all over his body and manifested severe burns, as well as seeming to have been drained of air. The subject was, the whole time, in a perfectly air conditioned room with ample oxygen and no dangerous objects in his vicinity. The appearance of these wounds still perplexes me. Following his death, the subject was swiftly cloned without incident and in a healthy state. He was summarily treated of all cloning-related injuries and compensated for his participation.
From this experiment, I gather that certain chemical concoctions administered to a subject can produce wildly unexpected symptoms
usually associated with non-chemical injuries. It would be wise to pursue further study on such matters, as they may be useful for NanoTrasen's chemical research.
Concluding, I believe that the experiments were most fruitful. The results have greatly benefited NanoTrasen's research capabilities. It is worth noting that the subject was examined in the secure chamber of miscellaneous storage during each test, with a connected canister of Nitrous Oxide on hand to sedate him in the case of emergency, and at no point was the crew of the NSS Aurora in any danger.
I hope that you find these test results to be most fruitful for your research activities and wish you all many happy returns.
Warmest regards,
Preston Metzer, Research Director aboard the NSS Aurora
