Custom Assistant title (In Progress)

I support the addition of new titles, I always do, but me and skull just need to actually implement.

HOWEVER

I do not support the addition of a title of "civilian", everyone on station is technically a civilian, other the most likely the captain, (Not even sec avoids the the civilian title, because they are not sworn police officers AFAIK)
And to be quite frank, you stated it, this title is for people who are coming without the intent to work, and lore wise I do not think that NanoTrasen would pay to send them onto a research station, it just doesn't make sense, if you want to just RP without working, fine, but do it out of game, where you are not on the constraints of a working environment.

Remember, even when you want to chair RP and possibly ignore your work, then ingame is not the setting for you because the NSS AURORA is a PLACE OF WORK, NOT A COLONY STATION.

A private research facility, owned by a "private" corporation? I personally think non-staff (excluding investors, inspectors, etc) would be VERY out of the ordinary.

IMO a very valid comparison is a teenager walking into one of the US Government's nuclear missile bunkers, or Billy no mates walking into a government lab.

I did not say, nor imply that private meant evil or hidden. Security wise NT has naval assets over watching Aurora, emergency response teams, military grade security on CC (a specialy designated military station - NMSS (or NTSS, I forget) Odin) and they are hated by the corporations that make up the syndicate, for their monopolisation of plasma research.

i doubt they would allow guests on, for PR or otherwise, without escorts. (CC rep, security officer, captain, head of staff, whatever) same as you never see people visiting labs, factories, wherever, without being escorted. I.e. I went for a job interview at a manufacturing plant belonging to GE Aviation (this particular factory making military and civilian parts, but that is besides the point) and we weren't allowed anywhere without escorts.

I completely agree with everything Samuel and greenlightbulb say. However, I still feel this would be a nice thing for people to have. Even though it is a state of the art, Plasma Research facility, with tons of swanky, fancy things on-board. It is still a game, and ours is of one of Roleplay.

People are going to come on and do a lot of character development and 'chair-RP' as an assistant, without actually assisting. This will continue to happen regardless of this title change, and that's fine. I personally just think that a custom title to something more appropriate would be beneficial. Particularly when it comes to looking at the manifest.

An example being the other day: Armando Elysium joined as an assistant, and a Scientist assumed he had authority over him (though I digress, this isn't about hierarchy). Naturally, Armando refused to assist him. Your point is basically, why would NanoTrasen send a civillian aboard a Research facility? It could be for a number of reasons, not entirely justifiable, but justifiable, nonetheless. Take into account that people may be coming to look around the station, before fully applying for a job there, for example. Or people may be assigning as civilians in order to get a better feel for Standard Operating Procedure and Protocol aboard the station.

My question is: Why would NanoTrasen send an assistant aboard, who refuses, or doesn't attempt to, assist?

Intern, intern would be a good additional job title

All I can think of is Hodor, Stable hand, has boarded the station.

Also, I find it odd we still call Nanotrasen a private company, considering it's the ruling force in most of Tau Ceti.

But, I like Student, intern, all that. Maybe, give them an item that they can use with another ID, to give them temporary access to whoever they are interning under. 

Plus, and I feel like I already mentioned this but I was in a state of sleep deprivation, it allows newbies a way to learn the game mechanics as well as gain IC knowledge.
For example: When I used my Marshall Iovine character and made him a chemistry student, I learned a lot OOC about chemistry and now that gives me a reason to know how to make some of Rai's amazing concoctions. So yeah...and stuff.

Maybe if we had more YES votes rather than NO...
It's not really going to hurt people if its put in, right?
