I believe that there needs to be a new headset channel in the game. One for chefs and botanists so that they can easily communicate what ingredients are needed and how to prepare them. The bartender should also get in on it as he sometimes depends on the other two to make some of the more "exotic" drinks.
All service cyborgs get automatic access to this channel and the HoP has access too.

Yep I agree, I think the Janitor should get one too though, so he's not left out, and the librarian and Chaplain. ;D

Tool, then we will have to call it the "civilian" headset. Or something. I dunno.

See, there's no actual need for another channel for the civilian jobs. There's no need for private communications between them, as there is nothing they will ever need to converse that the rest of the crew do not need to hear, there is nothing private for them.
If it needs to get to the point of privacy, they can either talk face to face, or make use of the PDA's. There is also the communication consoles (I believe they are called that) which they can use, though I'm not entirely sure they can send messages to each other.

I vote yes on these. Us 'civilians' are the little guy's of the station. Without us you cant run a station! People, it is time to unionize! Start the NanoTrason work Union!
I don't know, it would not hurt to have them, yeah you could use a PDA or the main channel, but again, nothing wrong with categorizing the more 'miscellaneous' roles.

The three of them (Botany, Chef, and bartender) are right next to each other. We got PDA's communication consoles and other kinds of stuff. They don't NEED to have these.

It would make ALL of our jobs easier, we have nothing private, but it would make it easier for the botanist to know pink wants tomatos without it getting drowned away from general chatter

If you can't really do that via general communications or other means of messaging systems, then there is a problem of communication between the crew. Having a private channel wont fix that.

No, it's not that they can't use public channels, it's just that it makes it easier. I'm sure all the scientists and doctors don't need to constantly hear about what kinds of foods the chef wants the botanist to grow.

I always found headsets to be more efficient and easier than a PDA.

But headseats are used because the department needs to communicate across the station possibly. Yes the chef, bartender and botanist work together but they aren't part of the same department. A bartender will be fine without a chef, a botanist will be fine without a bartender, a chef is the only one who could reasonably need help from the others if you want to make more interesting food.
You honestly cannot tell me a PDA is hard to use, it takes five seconds to get to the name you want to message then once that's done you can instantly reply to them.

The general channel should be for announcements not chatter. The civilians do need a channel, they shouldn't be treated like second class citizens their jobs are just as important as everyone else's....without the barman we'd have basically no security force.
The PDA argument just makes me want to say, if we have to use PDA's for communications so should you....

I do use PDA's for communication, they work well when you don't need everyone on your headset to listen. Its a headset that doesn't mean your a second class citizen, your job doesn't require you to be able to talk to other jobs. You have legs and a mouth, go use them.

The same argument could be made for the other departments...it's just lazy that the civillian's don't have them... At the very least they should be able to have supply headsets.

I'm not saying PDA's are hard, it's just a headset is much quicker. And I'm not talking about all civilians having headset channel I'm just talking about these three. Yes, a chef is fine without a bartender, and vice versa, but when you have them all, you have a chance to make something really good, something that you don't normally serve every shift. It's for coordination, Sub. When the chef's out harvesting his meat, he asks the botanist for some more soy and some wheat for example. The bartender wants a bit of lemon juice for a drink. The HoP wants to ensure that the three parties are all doing their jobs with efficiency, and communication lines ensure that. The service bots can be called from anywhere when needed. It's not a major idea, I know. Just something little that someone could look into.

Tool, a chef and botanist wouldn't under normal circumstances be seperated as much as other departments. Supply - miners on asteroid. Engineering - anywhere on the station/space/outpost. Science - scientists on asteroid. Medical - Anywhere on the station. Security - Anywhere on the station
This is not the only reason, sometimes departments have to broadcast to all the co-workers about something, could be serious or not. For example the security officer could need to notify the department of security that the criminal has been captured, and that no one needs to be alerted that much anymore. Or scientists could have to notify the rest of science that certain testing is taking place.
I doubt the chef, barkeep or botanist have stuff like that going on (on normal circumstances)
