Atmospherics Techs should have access to black gloves and industrial welders like normal engineeres. Only there in atmos.

Why? They are atmos techs, not atmos and anythingthatneedsawelder techs. The gloves are debatable though

Gloves could easily be explained with hot piping/cans/tanks/air. Welders, ehhh.

Welders are needed to dismantle and install disposal equipment/cut apart walls to access piping, both of which atmos techs are responsible for. As it is, atmos techs have access that is nearly identical to the janitor. And giving engineers air alarm access and access to the atmos mainframe was a huge kick in the nuts to them.

I agree, we might aswell remove atmospherics, since all engineers MUST KNOW IT! -AHEM- -AHEM-

I agree with Dalek, the actual job of Atmos tech is really redundant as most engineers can do atmos already. instead how about we just make atmos tech an option for job title under engineer.

I disagree, Atmospherics are meant to be the firefighters of the crew and are there to make sure the air has no nasty chemicals in it. I don't feel that the engineers should have access to atmos just as much as the atmos techs don't have access to the engine. It's not their specialist field of engineering. Sure they should have some training in atmos to do their job but to look after an entire ship and know how to construct/deconstruct all of the parts of the ship? IC'ly it would feel that the engineers would be the smartest people on the ship.
On the note of setting atmos as a sub title of engineer, my experience while playing Fai the atmos/electrician people tend to ignore the title and expect her to set up the engine or ignore her completely and do everything without thinking about their characters skills.

You're missing the point though. Engineers used to not have the ability to access air alarms or access the atmos mainframe. Now they do.
This has rendered atmos techs all but useless except for the purpose of initial calibrations. In return, atmos techs have gotten nothing. They had worse access than engineers before -- they still have it. There is literally no reason to have an atmos tech.
At all.

Engineers having access to atmos is what I don't agree with. I don't know maybe I'm just a bit miffed that one of my favorite jobs is getting made redundant because the jack of all trades guys have access to it.

Why can't we just make all tiles unsimulated? That would mean we could get rid of both atmos and engineering. Honestly that's the best idea.
On a serious note, amospherics is seriously underated and engineers have basically taken over you could say. Sure a little bit of know how on how the air works, but in my eyes, engineers are engineers. They're meant to formulate strategies and ideas regarding the structural side of the station.
But seriously, unsimulated tiles fix all the problems.
