Here is a basic guide to the basic job and responsibility of each role within the medical department.
Chief Medical Officer: An obvious one, you are the man/woman incharge of the medical bay and all personnel within. You report to the captain.
Medical Doctor: Your job is to treat all patients and assist in the training of younger personnel in medical.
Surgeon: Your job is to conduct all surgical procedures be it emergency or routine.
Nurse: You are a junior member of the team and you are responsible for basic patient care and assisting the other doctors.
Emergency Physician (First Responder): Your job is to be the first on scene when someone calls for help from medical, you are well trained and rehearsed with first aid and should be able to stabilize most patients and keep them alive till they get to medbay.
Porter (Job best taken by a nurse)
Your uniform is in the doctors locker, your job is making sure patients get where they need to be. You work within medbay moving equipment and patients, providing some basic security (escorting people out) and may accompany the first responder with a roller bed.
Chemist/Pharmacist:
Your job is to create chemicals and medicines for the crew and the rest of medical.
Virologist:
You spend your time researching diseases and viruses to ensure the crew remains healthy from bacteria and illness.
Psychiatrist/Psychologist:
You are responsible for the crews mental health.
Geneticist:
You are responsible for cloning dead personnel and researching DNA and genomes.

Virologist: You spend your time manufacturing diseases and sometimes accidentally releasing them if you're not good.

Well actually both are correct, you are meant to do both tasks.
