A ping device is a piece of mountable machinery with a simple function: When activated, it sends an automated message to a defined channel indicating that it has been activated, along with its location. It would be placed in various locations on the station, and crew could use them to easily signal the need for security, medical, and/or engineering personnel. Of course, with ease of use comes ease of abuse, so the idea would need to be altered slightly to prevent spam of the devices. Perhaps make them activated by ID, and then cannot be activated again until an ID with sufficient access deactivates it.

Signallers. When you hit the send button on a signaller, it sends a *beep beep* and a beep noise to any signaller on the same channel that is active. They're pretty damn versatile, too.

Signallers. When you hit the send button on a signaller, it sends a *beep beep* and a beep noise to any signaller on the same channel that is active. They're pretty damn versatile, too. But signalers aren't able to send anything more than a *beep beep*, much less a message with their current location. Furthermore, they don't have access to any of the job-specific channels to send messages through, or even the radio frequencies headsets use, so unless everyone's carrying around a signaller, it's not very helpful. It's impossible to use them with the same ease, speed, and utility as ping devices on the scale that they were designed for. Maybe as like a doorbell in medbay lobby or the bar, but not as a station-wide, multi-department alert system.

Sounds.... interesting.. would it be a computer in each department? Or.. a handheld device? Or maybe just a panic button?

It would be a small, wall mounted electronic, similar in appearance to the Heads of Staff's keycard authentication device. Essentially, it would work like a panic button: players press it/swipe their ID on it, and it notifies medical/security through their department channel.

Well that sounds pretty darn nifty, and what we'd have one in every department?

It would be in most rooms/areas of importance, including high-traffic areas like the bar and escape hallway, the major hallway for each department, and in the offices of the heads of staff.

Alright, and do you already have the code for it? Because if you get that then we might be able to add it in with the next update.

I don't have the code for it yet, but it should be simple to make. It might also need a unique sprite, and would have to be put in by the mappers

Okey Oswald, we've just started work on code build 0.0.4 so if you want to see this in get the code done and send it to me via forum messaging, I'll add a sprite, add it to the code and let the mappers add it.
