A/N: This could be become an RP, or I could keep it as a story. It depends on what you guys think and or want. As well, this is what happens when I spend two days writing up a universe. It's still pretty short though, so sorry about the small length of the first "chapter". This story also first started out as a "humans from 2014 go missing, and reappear in 2514", but this was scrapped to make it more or less just a futuristic world. Yeah. I can write.
______________________________________________________________________________________________
The year is 2514. The exact date? January 1st, 2514. A new year, and a new chance to reflect on what humanity has achieved. Humanity has advanced for the greater good. Space travel has been common for centuries, faster than light travel had been around for a good portion of time as well. It had been nicknamed “Omega Travel”, for it being the “fastest speed obtainable” so in theory, it was “the end”. Everyday travel had been changed as well. Extremely fast, magnetic, large bus like trains moved people quickly throughout the lands of different planets, all run in magnetic strips located in the roadways, which kept the buses from colliding with other buses or objects. Of course, personal transportation existed too. Much like the “hovercars” people dreamed up, the miniature space shuttles fly throughout busy city skies. Their size and shape symbolize those found in personnel carriers. They were boxy, but had enough space to hold up to five people. They had two doors, that were more or less what would have been considered “butterfly doors” in the 21st Century. They opened upwards, allowing for people to exit more easily. They traveled at a moderate speed, but were prone to accidents, seeing as they weren’t strapped down to the roads. They also were commonly discouraged to be used at low flight levels, due to their difficulty to control in small, crowded areas.
Most of humanity’s countries still existed in one way or another. Mexico had been added into South America, as well as non-American states, leaving only Canada and the United States as North America. Much of the Middle East combined into one, large force, calling themselves the Eastern Alliance. Surprisingly, much wasn’t changed by this new Alliance, despite the new borders. Korea, Japan, and China were all but obliterated. Much of the survivors from the war between these countries flocked to other Asian countries, or Eastern Europe. The United States, the United Kingdoms, Canada, and Germany held the strongest armies, with the Eastern Alliance close behind, and still a capable foe. Outside of Earth, humanity colonized the surrounding planets, but here there were no countries. Most of the jingoism on Earth was non-existent, which caused people to move into the reaches of space, for multiple reasons, and everybody had their own.
Police forces and military personnel adopted suits of armor, that were consisted of plastic, that created energy shields, invisible to the eye. It would take multiple shots to penetrate most body armor. The police force used a lower quality set of armors, with dark blue-ish to black coloration. Their name, rank and police department were on the armor’s right wrist. Along with this, “POLICE” was written on the back of their armor. Their helmets were sphere shaped, mostly to fit the officer’s heads. The visors in the helmets were shaped to a “T”, allowing for ample sight. Of course, along with the military, some police officers customized their armor to better suit them. The R-504 was the lightest and most versatile armor. It was mostly centered on their chest and head. The armor in those sections were highly engineered to be more defensive, but the limbs were obvious weak spots. The S-153 was the heaviest armor, mostly used for special operation police forces, including SWAT and search and rescue units. The armor was next to impossible to breach, but some people had figured out some obvious weak points. The visors weren’t able to be shielded, and thus the shields could be bypassed, and quickly kill officers, or whoever got their hands on the armor. The heavy armor, like many years ago, still managed to be heavy. This was mostly due to their energy supply they needed, which was supplied by bulky engines that were placed throughout the armor, linking together.
The military had different types of armor. There were two common variants of armor. North American, and Eastern Europe used a variant called the Yu-M, nicknamed the Yum Machine. They were mediumly armored suits. Their visors were upside down Vs. Somehow, they managed to see normally. The small slits in the “V” managed to keep their eyes from being targets. Their mouths were shielded, with no visual identification on where it was. This worried some people who saw them, as they looked more fearsome. Onboard their suits of armor, were things that were best described as HUDS. They alerted the user of their firearm’s ammunition, without having to look at the gun’s ammunition counter, located on the left side of the gun, and the magazines. It also gave the user the knowledge of where they were hit, and the state of their shields. Along with the HUD, there were onboard AIs. These AIs were customized to the soldier, and their personality. It was generally made so the user would enjoy the company of a robotical ally. The AIs could also be turned into holograms, also customized by the creators before the soldiers meet the AI, to further help the soldiers in locating items or objectives. Their AIs could be damaged, but this rarely happened. The other nations, South America and the Eastern Alliance used the DE-T, or the “TED”. They were heavy armor, but unlike the police armor, they were lighter weight and were easier to get around with. They were very common with the YU-M, except there was no onboard AI. Instead of an AI, there was an enhanced HUD, that allowed the users of the DE-T to more easily communicate with each other, and other units. This also kept from soldiers going missing more often. Both of their variants were giving adaptive paints, in a hexagon pattern.
The weaponry was different for their tasks. Their side-arms were commonly the ZT-D. This sidearm was normally used in the police forces. This was a small, pistol mostly resembled the MP-433 Grach. They fired different rounds, each consisted much of “laser projectiles”. The bullets resembled former physical bullets, but were made up of thermal heat. Different magazines existed for assignments. Explosive magazines, incendiary, chemical, and “taser/stun” rounds, along with regular, unmodified magazines. Each could be fired from the same gun, but each tampered with the gun’s rate of fire. For example, an explosive bullet would render the gun unable to fire for multiple seconds. These magazines were featured in all normal firearms, not just sidearms. The most common military handgun was the DE-L, modeled after the Glock .45. Unlike the police weaponry, the DE-L and other military weaponry featured onboard AIs, much like in their armor. While it wasn’t the same as their armor’s AIs, the AI in their weaponry merely existed to better the weapon’s firing. The primary firearms were different, but most consisted of the ability for the user to adapt it to their situation. Most guns’ basic models were based off the FN F2000, or the XM8. There were multiple equipment parts that most soldiers kept in their equipment bags, or stored in their armor. These parts could allow the rifle to become a long ranged sniper rifle, or a close ranged PDW. Like the pistols, they had the same type of magazines, although stronger.
Space travel was mainly used by merchants, police ships, and military ships. Most vessels were too expensive to privately own, so people who wanted to travel had to either take a small space shuttle, or buy a ticket onboard a spacecraft, the few that allowed people to do that. Merchant ships were normally small, to be able to get in an out of areas quickly, mostly modeled by smugglers. Most merchants played the design off, saying it was to help them ship products quickly. Rarely did the ships have any weaponry, and if they did, they were normally smugglers, with either slaves or drugs. Military and police vessels were normally rather large, with more than three hundred people on most ships. The sections of their ships were powered by a large engineering section. Besides that, they normally had powerful shields that kept most attacks from hitting the ship. The weaponry consisted of turrets, that quickly fired in bursts, white, blinding lasers. These lasers consisted of more or less pure heat, which melted the metal making up the ships. There were also explosive turrets, that acted much the same way, but helped breach the enemy ships, when the time did arise, to space. There were also large command ships, “Goliaths”. These ships dwarfed twenty of the largest military ships. There were only roughly two or three of these ships per country, and each consisted of more than 1,000,000 people. These ships were the diamonds of humanity’s advancement. They had working “faster than light” travel, but had these had only been used once, at a collective time, and for reasons most didn’t know, hadn’t been used since. As well, these ships had prototype “stealth” camouflage, which for a short time, blending the Goliaths in with the surrounding vast space. They also were more or less “cities”, with stores, bunks, churches, schools, and training areas.
Recently, humanity has made contact with some other alien life forms. These aliens looked very much like humans, but were at the same time, obviously different. Humanity has been keeping the knowledge of these aliens a secret to most, while they determine if they should arrange meetings with these aliens. Aliens have claimed that there are collections of races, translated in English, “Stronghold” generically, that share their equipment with each other, and help each other in their collective issues. Still, humanity is unsure on rather or not they should go about staying alone, or reach out to these new friends or possible foes. So, with today being the first day of the New Year, humanity’s leaders sit down to discuss the possibilities, and new changes they may need to undergo.
-------------------------------
A/N: Imagine heavy armor to look like a less bulky, clunky, more futuristic Power Armor. Light weight armor would look more like N7 Armor, including the Breather Helmet. The customizing of weapons work much like they would in the Borderlands universe, where you could pretty much create a gun to become whatever you want it to be. Also not mentioned, but I believe it would be important to note, the interiors and buildings are your generic, "ultra-bright" futuristic towns.
If this gains enough support, I will fully flesh out the factions, give notable characters, throw in merchants, conflict. I have a lot of ideas, but I don't want to write everything down and nobody read it.
