Rose Watson, my second main character (first place will always be reserved for Lori) has come to a dilemma. I'm stuck between choosing what two career paths she'd be taking.
When I first created her, I was aiming for her to reach Head of Security. But with her storyline, cameo chapters, gameplay, etc etc, she's diverted off from training to become an HoS, to becoming a Special Ops Peacekeeper.
I really don't want to shove in a brand new NT career branch into the NT universe, that only Rose would be part of. The whole Peacekeeper piece was an idea that NT was experimenting with a different kind of response team - not ERT or Deathsquad, just an agent who was already present on station, ready to respond to calls and help. She was in training to be sent out on future missions for the NT. But at the moment her role is more like a plainclothes cop. I needed to create a reason with why she had a gun with her whenever she boarded the station.
So what I came up with is a background story of Rose having a beneficial alter ego , nicknamed Rosie Thorns. (The existence of this alter ego is the whole reason why NT is interested enough to not execute her). This alter ego mindset was born from Rose's past life as a criminal drug dealer. It's a coping mechanism from her drug abuse and hectic lifestyle. This persona comes out when Rose is faced with a dire security threat. It's trigger happy, (mostly) emotionless, and can block out external distractions to focus on the direct goal or task, and do anything to get the job done. This alter ego mindset was also the saving grace when the Syndicate hacked Rose's implant during one shift, and she was mentally bombarded with loyalty demands from both NT and Syndicate. Oh, and she also went crazy, hearing voices and all.
However, despite all her mental training, Rose finally cracked. She failed her first deployment mission to spy on the Syndicate, was captured, and implanted. NT got her back eventually, and she seemed okay for awhile, but something was triggered in her and she exploded, attacking crew members and thinking she was once again on a Syndie station, being being hunted down and/or interrogated. This left her confused, traumatized, delusional, paranoid, and lost. At the moment, she's under therapy at a mental health station.
The most most obvious next step would be NT calling the Peacekeeper experiment a failure, and scrapping the project - thus removing Rose's safety net and letting her get executed. Or mindwiped. She's not useful anymore since she went crazy, and her recovery would take too long for NT to care about supporting one person. Besides, her mental health would be too unpredictable for NT to use her again as an agent. It'd be easier for NT to just get rid of her. But I really don't want to lose Rose.
Second option is to let her remain a peacekeeper. This would really depend if I can get her a gun again - maybe also other story important items like a loyalty implant - but Rose would simply not fit with the security team anymore. She would be too OP. Someone suggested I make her like Tanner Mirabel,(assistant with a gun, called on to be a bodyguard) but that's also something I don't want. Tanner is a class of his own I don't want Rose to copy him, and I do want to keep her within the security department.
Last choice would be if I simply removed her gun, removed the Peacekeeper tidbit and returned her as a basic security personnel, working toward HoS promotion. But...I don't know how I can explain that in her storyline (outside of a mindwipe, then she wouldn't be 'Rose Watson' anymore). And if the Peacekeeper goes, she's technically supposed to be executed...
What I'd really want is to have Rose continue as a Peacekeeper inside security. But I can't come up with a logical storyline for that to happen, nor keep her from being too OP among the security team. So I'm going to chuck all this info out on you guys, and ask for your opinions and advise. What do you think should become of Rose Watson?
