[OOC POST]
Some of you may vaguely remember a few pirate events back on Apollo.
That was part of an idea I spearheaded of Persistent Events. A faction and event chain that changed in their methods, resources, objectives and attitudes based on how previous encounters with the crew went. Letting them get away with resources strengthened them, and striking decisive blows would force them to adapt with other tactics.
Your actions as a single character could impact the course of events weeks down the line if you're in the right place at the right time.
I'm restarting this idea here on Aurora, with more investment and experience, so hopefully this should be great.
So, what do you need to know as a player?
FAQ
So what does my character know?
The station has been relocated (during these rounds) to Unclaimed Space (as the corporations know it), or Freespace as the various free men and criminals of the void know it. The area is lawless, and everyone is out for themselves.
Pirates are not subtle, and near everyone who's been spaced for a few months has heard a tale or two of ships getting hit and robbed by roving bands.
Rumour abounds on their methods and equipment, and nobody is truly certain (yet!) what kind of tech a determined pirate force could bring to bear.
This is not mysteriousness to justify admins giving pirates whatever they want: A robust crew could get a report on what the pirates are actually packing at that time, and their equipment will fluctuate based on previous missions.
As said below, there will be an IC rumourmill that will be considered common knowledge for anyone, maintained by the admins and contributed to by players. (Not yet in place, will link there when it becomes active)
Will this get in the way of my RP?
No more than most rounds should. Characters that want to avoid anything to do with the pirates will generally be free to hide up in their workplace. There is a chance that you might be a specific target due to your job, but this is again true of traitor rounds.
How will we know what's happened if we miss events?
Faction DMs will operate a rumour mill, giving ideas of what happened every round. Admins themselves will track in detail in our secret forums the exact events of every round.
The donator forums will be used to drop a few more detailed secrets and hints as to what might be in store, so if you're curious, ask around! Some people might have been missent an email, or spotted something others missed...
Who's working on this?
Danmageddon - Pirate Lead
Nightmare00 - Pirate GM
We're seeking a Pirate Developer to get us more fun stuff to use during these events.
How can I get involved?
Investigate messages, be active and robust. Participate in the forum rumour-mill. Events will generally run early-evening GMT onwards until about midnight GMT, and will generally not be planned in advance. They should just become a regular part of server fun.
I want to voice my thoughts on this. Where do I go?/b]
This thread is fine for that. Post away. I may crop and delete things to keep post-count down, but as a principle I don't silence dissent or argument. Anything deleted will be kept in this thread, but compressed into a player-questions post (below).

Dear Valued Employee or Tajaran Indentured Associate,
Your workstation has been producing an unacceptable Plasma quota in both quality and quantity.
As a result, a nuclear tug has been deployed to your location. It will de-orbit your station to relocate you to an untapped source of mineral in unclaimed space.
NanoTrasen would like to provide you with the attatched informative data file as to why you will be perfectly safe within this location, and remind you that the terms of your contract would cause loss of pensions, granted rights, and services (such as protective clothing, station access, and galactic transport) were you to refuse this new opportunity.
Thankyou for your continued service.

You're going into unclaimed space, or 'Freespace' as you probably know it.
We're not too well-liked there. Neither are things like 'law' and 'peace'.
I'm your contact at NT for this transferral. I expect you to be ready to deal with threats to the ship. I expect you to keep your heads on straight. Your deaths are paperwork I could do without.
You shouldn't face too much threat unless you make a lot of noise. So keep your heads down and try not to look too valuable. There are worse things than meteors and ion storms floating out here.
When you report on the unexpected, you report to me. I'll decide how bad things are getting.

As the engine enters the deeper layers of unclaimed space, a chill solar wind rocks the station slightly. Struts creak and lights flicker as the PDA of every crew member, in unison, plays a crackly and heavily compressed nautical anthem.
The station screens flicker and spark. For a brief few seconds, the image freezes on a grainy, static-warped image.
