The round start off as normal, lets the crew settle in and makes them believe its going to be a normal shift.(There would be no captain or he would be admin controlled).
Then after that time the crew gets a message like *unknown teleport signatures detected* and a t this cue a small group of mercenary's jumps into the bridge and kills the (admin) captain. They then proceed to hold the station to ransom/take it over by offering more than NanoTransen do pay-wise (or something to that extent) and just let the RP spread forth from there. (the mercenary's would be buffed with admin gear to discourage sec from ramboing them early on)

This would be a decent idea for RP days, but it would take a lot of work from everyone. We've tried things like this before and they've all crashed and burned.

Thats why you don't fill your blimps will hydrogen...or somthing I feel like I just got schooled... somehow. >_< I'm not trying to shoot down your idea. It sounds like a fantastic opportunity for RP. However, in order for it to be executed correctly, we'll need several admins and mods actively monitoring progression to ensure a single sec officer or hero engineer doesn't blow up the bridge or break into the armory and rambo the boarding party. Bottom line, I'd run this, but it'd have to be with the help of several other staff members or on RP day. ^_^

Oh yea I agree. Although it would probably have to be run on a RP day to prevent "hydrogen"

My concern is that 80% of the crew would go 'eh' and carry on as if the day were completely normal, and the remaining 20% would throw themselves to their deaths.

True. No one ever reacts realistically to hostage situations in this game: They either give no shits, or they run in as a janitor, disarm one of the hostage takers and shoot everyone.
Both are equally stupid.

If I may raise a point. Unless we start running things like this, and actually 'developing' the RP involved in them, we will never reach a point where we can do exciting things like this.
The idea of shying away from something simply because we fear that our playerbase is not capable of handling it is counter-productive. If we run these, then we will see what the situation is like, and we can attempt to curb and fix it. Otherwise, no movement at all will happen.

Well, we've tried things like this multiple times, yet still people apparently aren't mature enough to handle it. Just speaking from past experiences, Skull.

When was the most recent run?
I'd say, run something akin to this on RP day, put up an after action report/discussion thread, link it in OOC multiple times and get people to discuss their points of view, opinions, whatever on it.
Basically, try to work the issue, instead of just putting something out there, having it fail, cursing under your breath, and retreating.
