I think fire should damage fingerprints, or remove them entirely from objects. It would make traitoring different in an exciting way, and would be a decent and realistic balance. Using fuel from tanks for fires wouldn't cause too much damage, and after stealing something, you torch the place a little bit to get rid of evidence. Thefts normally go unnoticed, but a fire would.

I can completely support this.

As we're adding in objectiveless antags. I think stuff that makes more sense and makes antags have more depth should definitely be added. Plus there's really not enough fires. This idea has my support.

No.
The bug with the detective scanner is fixed. Nine times out of ten any prints you lift are only partials. You can't get the full fingerprint without scanning a shit ton of related evidence or being lucky and getting something repeatedly handled.
Until the fingerprint is completed it just says 'a print without sufficient completeness' or something similar.

Would prefer it if wiping down things with a wet rag removed fingerprints.

Would prefer it if wiping down things with a wet rag removed fingerprints. {Why Not Both?} Just kidding, besides the crappy reference, it does make sense that fire would logically burn away fingerprints and all considering it can leave a corpse charred to the crisp. So why not make it easier on someone, if they're willing to go through the trouble of either obtaining flammable gasses or building a flamethrower..why not knock the "I left fingerprints" troubles out of their mind. So I'm in support, either you can bump someone off silently and wipe away fingerprints with a rag of some type...or just turn the room they are in into an incinerator. Sounds good to me.

Because adding fire fingerprint checks to all the items and structs is kind of painful and I think the work outweighs the benefits.
Believe me, fire's not getting less deadly just because people are flammable all of a sudden. Nono, it's getting more deadly. And if you light a room on fire, I don't think anyone's going to be taking prints for a while regardless.

I dont think anyone thought this one over very hard on the agreeing side of this.
Firstly, that's really really hard to code.
Secondly, when an entire room has been set on fire, most people aren't remembering to check for prints. They are trying to put out the fire.

But when the fire dies out, they won't be able to find who caused it, or who caused the crime either.

Well, see. After a room stops burning, it's usually packed full of deadly burning hot gas, which uuuusually decompresses and pulps anyone who opens the door to the room. And after this update, it'll light them on fire. I've like. Literally never had a problem with people scanning burning rooms for prints. Just never seen it happen ever. I mean. They can, but they'll be on fire after this probably.

Yeah, because there is literally no evidence when a fire is list unless you are a monumental idiot and leave the match behind.
Fuel is a liquid. It doesn't retain prints.
The detective scanner already needs related evidence to formulate a full print anyway. The most you'll get is a partial. It won't be enough.
