As I was playing one day as an AI on a boring round, I decided to read through the employment computer. What I saw made no sence.
When I checked through the computer, I found that Roy Wyatt was the CE. First of all, he was 23 years of age. This seems to be a bit young for a head of staff. Secondly, his medical record indicated he was 19 when he became an engineering apprentice. Alright, so maybe he is a fast learner. Well, Pump pulled up his skill set. The entire engineering area was set to untrained. In fact, everything was set to untrained except a couple of security skills. His employment notes are completely empty, too.
Now, I see that the captain has joined, and decide to look at her skills. She is 26, and has also been a Chief Engineer, however her employment records are blank. Medical records say she has abused opiates, yet is able to serve as the highest ranking person on a secret science station. Even so, her security record should show something, but no, it is also blank.
What I am trying to get to is that ICly, these ages and records make absolutely no sence. Heads are supposed to have the skill set and the records behind them. However, very few people actually do it. I feel that ages and records need to make sence if we are to take that person's leadership seriously.
(Sorry about the poor wording of this, by the way. I suck at writing. In fact, this is the most writing I have done all summer. :/)

None of this makes any sense, I have to agree with you. Our general guideline is that characters in head roles must be 30+, with captains being 35 or over. Some exceptions for the HoP might apply.
I appreciate you reporting it, and both of the characters you've brought up are currently being dealt with. If you see anything else that seems off or nonsensical in character bios like that, feel free to inform us and we'll take a look at it.

I like that you brought this up Andy. It's been a problem before, but I'd like to bring up Star Thames the 17 year old geneticist which in my mind is also unacceptable.
My head characters are all oldies, Parindra my CMO is fourty five, Michael my captain is sixty five, and Vangut my RD is eight five.
Heads should be older than others, thirty is a good age, and mostly this is enforced. But it annoys me seeing seventeen year old girls with pink floorlength braids that are somehow working in one of the most complex medical fields when they should be still in school. Medschool takes a long time people, and then specialising is even longer. Goddamn. Sorry for the rant.

Star Thames the 17 year old geneticist This is something that should be brought up in-game or as a player complaint.

Let's try to avoid using specific character names unless it's in a formal complaint.
Now, here's the thing about whitelist apps. The one thing that the app doesn't ask you is how old your character, which you wish to be a head with is. People should have a general idea that you can't have a 17 year old CMO, but we can't always assume that they know. Generally, for most head positions you need to be at least 30 years of age, give or take a couple years, captains should be like 35, but HoP and HoS can be a little bit younger, as their fields don't really have much to learn as say, a RD or CE would.
So yeah. That might fix this problem.
(Also, I am at least 80% sure that Roy had been promoted to CE in game in the event in question. It happens a lot for someone reason with him.)

I would assume that most players that manage to get through the whitelist are able to make use of common sense. However, since in some cases it does happen that someone is simply misinformed, so I'll see about having it added to the application guidelines.

Also would be nice if people would take the time to write something on their records... helps with character development and is good practice for writing background to your characters. I also wish people to be more aware that there are records in this game... read the wall of text I have for records! Its there but never used! T-T

Oh and Ffrances I've brought it up many times in game. It's gotten to the point where if ever I see stuff like this as Head of security, I have them arrested and interrogate them, asking how they snuck aboard because Nanotrasen doesn't hire people that aren't qualified, and you're not genetics qualified at 17. Usually I accuse them of being a spy yadda yadda.

Nikolai was 37 when he worked on Aurora as the HOS, and...I've never had other heads, actually. Closest is Rai, at 34, who knows Chemistry, basic surgery and medical procedures.
So, yeah, I'd say you need a decent age for your character in any complicated job.

I remember Tablespoon dealing with one of Dea's chars that was a bit too young for RD while I was rubbing my ghost butt on Detective Tool's face.
All my head characters aren't lower than 35, and Jerry (who I noticed was way to over skilled for his age of 40) is fifty-something years of age. When I run into things like... A 20 year old HoS, I try to pretend that in spess we have really really smart peepul so that it doesn't break my immershuns. But now the problem is, what of the characters who have their whole story set and the job and the everything and they're too young? Just tough luck? Eh. Anyway. My janitor ends up being older than some captains.
