My usual server has been lacking in population so I figured I'd try some other ones.

I set up my character and start out as a janitor. After about 10-15 minutes of SOP, every single light on the ship breaks. I quickly get to work fixing them, only to have (presumably the admin) them break all over again. Cue another 10 minutes of light replacing without any cause identified. Around this time some random guy just comes up, tells me he needs my cart and just plain steals it from me. I chase after him but couldn't catch up quick enough. I let security know, even give them the guys name but they don't do anything about it, not even reply to me. Then all the lights go out again and we're ordered to remain in our departments. So I go to my closet and sit there for 5 minutes not doing anything and decide to wander off, given I have literally nothing to do. I find the security and ask to hide in the security area for protection, they refuse so I go back to my quarters. Wait there about 10 minutes and then we're ordered to the security area.

I head over to security and hide out there. Then this big alien thing the size of the screen floats above me and after a couple of minutes of milling around without any character action other than visual contact just straight up ganks me. So I lay there on the ground, and I'm bleeding out. 5 minutes later a droid drags me to the medbay after I pitifully cry for help. Last 15 minutes and through the entire time I've been writing this, I've been lying in the medbay semi-concious wondering why I even bothered to play SS13. (Now been dragged off to the shuttle so in theory I'm still alive, lucky me)

So not really sure how I could have played differently or what I could have done here. I'd love for someone to enlighten me on how I can possibly play any better, not feeling too great about my experience to be honest. I'm inexperienced when it comes to this server so I'm not going to assume that I acted perfectly, but I have played a lot of SS13 and I do know how to RP.

Furthermore, the radio is abused by a couple of members. Endless, endless spam of irrelevant chatter that has no place on the radio and everyplace in just local chat. OOC use is a bit much for me but I always keep it muted anyway, heh.

So is this normal or just a one off bad round?

I'd say this was a bad, bad round. As it was voted secret, it was meant to be a wizard round but I can only assume the wiz logged off or admins switcharoo'd it to be a trying-too-hard-to-be-spooky event, and alas, you witnessed this round.

From what you've said, and what Mocheeze said, this round was was an admin event. Which usually means all the lights break, and whoever is running it gets to play as their sooper spoopy monster and kill everyone. I don't like them, but what are you gonna do?

It just seems you logged on at the wrong time. Usually we play normal game modes where not everything breaks all the time.

I'm here to make bad puns and not much else.

Usually.

Normally it's just ERP and lollipops on our server, honest.

And You can't really judge an entire server from a single round. Randoms join, ruin rounds, RP goes badly due to shitty circumstance and general other things such as this. We do have great round with fantastic RP, but we also have bad rounds like this occasionally. It happens.

Hello,

First off, have a huge disclaimer about the opinion I am about to bestow: I do not play on the major population hours due to the fact that I am unable, so I was unable to directly observe what was going on. As such, I am working off of only the things I know in general, and what was posted in this thread.

Moving on. More than likely a one off round. Events are tricky in a number of ways, first off: you can never cater to everyone. Some people like scary things, other people like pirates and syndies running amok, the third type of people enjoy same warm fuzzy feathery creature trying to hug them, without taking into consideration that said warm fuzzy feathery creature is well capable of murder and nine steps beyond that. So, maybe lights-out horror isn't your thing, fair enough.

Second aspect is to consider the live audience, and the fact that things don't always go as planned, even for the admins. Certain admins like more scripted things that are infinately easier to punch holes through and cause a backfire on, others leave things open-ended. This might have been a case of the former, or just a bad round of DM-ing, and if so, sorry?

All-in-all: things go wrong, feel free to let the staff know if they do go wrong (but for the love of god, be constructive), or if they go wrong on a regular basis, but otherwise. I hope you can find a more enjoyable experience on our server soon enough.

This dude, despite being new, is one of the few rare times I've actually seen constructive criticism about an event posted. Whenever I run an event, I make sure to spam, at round's end, for people to leave feedback. I was not there either, and thus can't really comment on the specific events, however I'd like to give you a piece of general advice, should you wish to try joining our server again (which I encourage you to do).

Use adminhelps.

Super important. We don't bite. The admin team is patient, friendly, and as long as you remain polite, your chances of having some light shed on whatever situation might be going on are fairly relatively high. Our main job is to make sure everyone is having a good time, so if fuckery like this happens on the server and you're at a complete loss regarding what to do, we should be able to explain the situation for you, especially if there's an event going on and someone didn't bother to set OOC info.

Just jumped into server as an IAA and had a good round. Good roleplay from the people on, some people being a touch belligerent though with the swearing and such. Oh well teach them to fall foul of IAA.
