So I had the idea for a genetic power that could be implemented called glossolalia. Basically, when you activate that block in genetics, the subject gains the ability to understand and speak all in-game languages. A bluetext message for it could be something like "You gain understanding of the words around you." It would make genetics much more fun, and be a useful tool for communicating with other crew members.
Tell me what you think!

I'd say the biggest problem would be the fact that randomly changing a strand of genetic material would not magically let you know how to speak every language.

Languages are learned, Darth. Not embedded within our genetic code.

How bout it enhances your innate skills with languages and biological talent for linguistics to the point where you can comprehend basically every word that's spoken.

We can get telekenesis, x-ray vision, and turn into the hulk with the power of shooting radiation at some dna blocks but glossolalia is too unrealistic? xP

Because those things aren't learned. They /can/ be things that are gained through DNA manipulation, supposedly. If you've never heard the Chinese language, you won't understand it just by your genetic code being altered.

I suppose perhaps it would be your linguistic comprehension skills would be so ramped up that as soon as you heard Chines you could decipher everything.

So, your mind would be able to process something you have no understanding of, in a matter of seconds? And that'd be used for language, and not bluespace understanding, theories of the afterlife, or the creation of advanced equipment that we've never had the idea for, or the ability to create?

Meow, when are genetic mutation abilities EVER used for something useful?
I'm stickin' with meow here though. Languages are learnt, not in your genetic geneticness. I suppose one way to go about was to increase the speed and effieciency of your brain taking in information, thus meaning you can learn languages very very quickly. But you'd still have to learn it. And a method like that seems impractical and dumb in a game like SS13.

Better idea. Just remove powers and replace it with like symbiotic life forms that work like the carnage red and venom black spiderman suits, which give the host some sort of variations of buffs, but we stuck with one.
Or cybernetic enchantments.
Or anything better then "zip boom I am hulk even though hulk was radiation and I should actually be a super mutant."

Is it anything less realistic than your mind suddenly being able to move stuff? xP
On a side note cybernetic enhancements would make way more sense than genetics does right now.
