This is more of a scenario than an actual event, as it will likely take place off-station. Here's the basic setup:
Ten crewmen awake in an open area surrounded by tunnel entrances. Helmets bearing cameras are locked on their heads, and their only clothing is scant gladiator armor. After a few moments, a voice coming from an unseen intercom tells them that they have been drafted in to the 25th annual Sol Games- a prestigious event, or so the speaker claims. The objective: kill everyone but yourself.
The helmets are rigged with explosives, says the announcer- any attempt to remove your helmet will cause your head to explode. Likewise, any attempt at escape or insurrection will trigger the explosives...
The battle will take place in a labyrinth, explains the announcer. Scattered throughout said labyrinth are rudimentary weapons, or tools. Harpoons, hatchets, metal rods, wrenches, screwdrivers, maybe even a grenade or two- each are objects of great importance to a person fighting for their lives.
There is another way to attain gear, explains the announcer- a so called "redemption system". When you kill another combatant, their helmet unlocks. In this way, you can attain multiple helmets, and trade them in for goods at a certain station. These premium supplies include: armor, two katanas, and a powered crossbow (bolts included). These items will give you a serious leg up on your opponents, but will also make you a bigger target, so be forewarned.
Another system of the Games, says the announcer, is the "negative reinforcement" system. Exactly 30 minutes in to the game, certain disastrous phenomena will occur throughout the arena- everything from plasma fires, to swarms of angry bees, to space carp, to rogue combat drones. This will keep the remaining combatants on their toes and give them more incentive to complete their objective faster.
And finally, says the announcer, some basic rules: no killing in the first five minutes (this will allow players to scramble in to the tunnels), no fighting at the redemption station (where premium gear is attained), and finally: no mercy.
The prize for the winner: Freedom. The penalty for losing: Death. Let the games begin!
---
That, essentially, is the whole concept. Ten players will be combatants, anyone else who's on will take up the roles of the announcer, or the affluent spectators (all of whom will be able to view the games via the combatant's helmet cameras). The event would, of course, require extensive map setup.
RP combat would be heavily encouraged. Ramboing someone that wants to do RP combat would be bannable, but if two people want to robust the old fashioned way, that's fine.
Forming teams would be acceptable , of course.
Anyways, that's all I've got for now. Feedback would be greatly appreciated.
