I think we can all agree here, security has been absolutely atrocious as of late. Okay, maybe a little longer than "as of late", but they're still bad.
What I see, is new people who are eager to get in the heat of SS13, look at the unlocked jobs listed for them, see "Warden", think of it as a cool title because Warden = Authority = Being cool. They then proceed to completely misconstrue their duties, confusing them with that of an officer. Also, they act like they are the supreme authority, as if they were a captain or something. At the most, they are an acting HoS but they feel the right to overly exert their rule.
Reason 1: A new player should not be a warden. This is a job, that is intended to be taken with a hint of professionalism. It's okay to be new to the game. It's okay to not know everything. But you really shouldn't take this job if you just downloaded this thing. When a character is a warden, without any prior experience as an officer or...with anything, really, it has a tendency to derail. According to the wiki, the warden is the one who can make security "A well oiled machine". If they don't understand how security functions, or how they are SUPPOSED to function, why should they be given this role?
Reason 2: Every other day, there comes one or two rounds with a warden that has no clue what their job is. I see wardens patrolling as though they are officers. When told not to, they usually reply with "but its fukin boring in th brig" or "im a high ranking officershut up" or something along those lines. Occasionally, we mods/admins give them a subtle message telling them that they should be in the brig at all times. But they still don't. They don't understand how their job is supposed to be done. They act it out however. For most other jobs, this might be fine, but as any mod will tell you, security is a department that needs to be doing their job to a reasonable standard, because they can easily ruin the round for someone else. So, why not give this position up to people who know how it works? I'm all for people learning new jobs, but a guy that has the keys to all the guns on the station should be background checked, no?
Reason 3: Speaking of the guy who has access to the armory guns, Shouldn't this position be considered a little...dangerous? I can literally shoot up the station, stunning people and take as many captives as I want with these massive amount of guns. I can carry a whole crate around with me, because reloading is for pussies. The amount of grief that can be easily caused with this one position frightens me. And yes, I'm aware there are other jobs that can grief quite easily, namely science, but those take a little bit of time and a tad bit of knowledge in some cases. Plus, throwing a bomb somewhere and blowing it up might not be as efficient as shooting every living fucker you see.
Reason 4: Should the HoS become fatally wounded, occupied, or otherwise busy, the warden is the one that takes charge. If HoS is a whitelisted position, shouldn't the person that inherits the title be a whitelisted person as well?
Also, I would suggest adding 2 Warden slots, even if without the whitelist addition. Why? One processes prisoners while the other keeps an eye on the armory. And also because RP, so you aren't the only guy in the brig.
