What may help is more variety in the other objectives than the final summons. Say... Procure Runtime for the dark lord unharmed. [He secretly loves cats and Officer Fuzzyboots needs a mate.] The dread lord feels like taking a day off summon an aspect of his power [4 culties to summon micro Narsie whitout its destructo powers and follow the nearest summoner occasionally spouting "I will devour/destroy you/this puny relm." "Fear me mortal!"] and go spread the word of Narsie door to door on the station or hand out flyers. ^^Or something creepy these are a little hammy. But even dread gods like ham.

The main concern with Cult, is that it was not BUILT for roleplay. It was built for gameplay.
The issue we constantly arise, is that this game was not MADE for heavy roleplay. It was made for a Good vs Bad, Red vs blue kind of gameplay, with you not knowing WHO is red.
Cult could probably due to gain some work for roleplay, since people are so adoring of the mode, even if it's a bit of a piss in a lake whether it works out well or not.
On the other hand, if we can't sneak up and smash someone in the face with a wrench, then cult can't really do much, now can they?
What we need, are ways for cultists to icly turn someone to their side, with miracles, acts of magic, and such. Heal people, bring life to the dead, create shows of light, and such.
It would need to seem less dark, and be able to be presented in a more pleasant light.

I figured it out.
Make it like the Pyro.
Make all the magic look all happy when you join, and are a cultist. like this:
Like, well, this.

That's an amazing idea Nikolai, though it doesn't quite fit the Lovecraftian feel of the current cult I don't see why we can't play it like that with me's until(if/when) ingame functions are added. I'll give that a try next round.

Here's my gripe about cultists. In rounds where they AREN'T RPing, they tend to get Nar'Sie summoned fast, and force people to convert. Which sucks. And if you confront them via RP, they'll come up with half-assed excuses for why you can't incriminate them. (Tomato juice? Really? I'm not stupid.)
And when I've been in a round that was cultists who RPed, it was always about sex. Or weird sexual rituals. Which I mean is okay on some cultists but can it really not be all the cultists? Unless a goal is "Impregnate hapless victims with Nar'Sie's corrupted spawn" and then it's more like a chestburster or something...
TL;DR version When cult doesn't RP is stupid. When cult only RPs sexual shit is stupid. There has to be a middle ground.

Let's talk about stories?
In a story, for it to work you need a plot. Without a plot, you have virtually no idea what's going on, and everything is everywhere. Everything else slowly fits in later. The plot is like the generator. Turn it on and it powers everything else. Does your antag round contain a plot, that isn't rashly made?
Here's what I role with. I have a story line for one of my characters (those who are aware know it's my HoS, and yes, there are work arounds for loyalty implants fyi). It's an ongoing background? Story line which doesn't really get shown to other people in game, because implant (until its removed, by admin hax. That's when you see a HoS walking around with two juggernaut's.). The story is practically how she wants to gain power within the ranks, and eventually become a leader, or as she says 'princess of darkness'. (dat fukken snowflake though).
Right, I have a plot/reasoning that isn't tea club book time or an excuse for sadistic erp. (it's a shit plot but it works and I like it, punk.). Now obviously I'm not going to be playing my HoS as a cultist on cult rounds, for obvious reasons such as, implant, breaking immersions, generally bad rp as it's meant to be secretive or the whole thing is kaput. Now what I do now is, have my other characters role cult and portray this. They don't know my HoS, but it's backing for the round they are a cultist. They have a REASON to be doing things, aside from serving Nar'Sie. It's a drive to get things going, and works when other cultists comply to work as a team.
Having a plot allows you to have reason to your actions. You're not in a jumbled mess of why this blood magic exists, you're in a scene for a purpose. Make the scene, make the plot, give the story. Once that is done, you'll find the entire station actually becomes part of the story, as they have a purpose in it too.

It doesn't matter WHAT the buggering space lizard Jesus that YOU do, pumpking.
In order to WIN. you must gank. Be sneaky. Attack quickly.
Because the mode is made for gameplay. It's not made for roleplay, and it shows. You can make a equation out of it.
Roleplay speed = Typing Speed - Speed of persons ability to react to situation - actions in game.
Gameplay speed = Reaction time - Action
I could make it more mathy looking, but meh. Anyway, the speed of combat and roleplay simply do not match up, obviously, and a mode made for gameplay just doesn't suit.
Cult doesn't even really fit the thematic story we are suppose to have, anyway. It'd probably be better off getting removed, since it's just Rev with more gank and magic, and a vague 'end game' that doesn't occur most of the time.

Nik. If you wish to go by that logic then we may as well target ALL antags. Every antag is built to gank, as shown by their skills. Does it mean we use those skills to gank though? No. The entire point of roleplaying these roles, is to UTILIZE the powers given to CREATE interesting scenarios. No, I'm not dismissing the fact that the entire game's combat system is built for ganking. It's OUR job as roleplayers to avoid that when we can, and know WHEN is the right time to use something.
Thus why I brought the point of creating a plot first. No, it doesn't help in terms of mechanics. Yes, it does help in terms of reasoning and role play. Which is the entire point of what we are here for, correct?
And no, I'm also not dismissing the fact that some situations are more about clicking then typing. I do that myself, I condone it too when appropriate. Along with being a role play server, it's also a game. Basically, everything in moderation.

This argument is cyclical, annoyingly, pumpy. You need the combat to give an ultimatium to the roleplay, and begin it, but it's also terrible and makes you need to end the roleplay as quickly as possible, in order to avoid death after someone notes the man screaming JASON IS A LING. Im out of this argument. I give the win to pumpy.

Built for gank, that's troubling and I suppose it's true. Knowing this, I choose not to attempt to convert people who won't roleplay with me, not who I can't for certain convert, but those who will disarm me as soon as I pull out a stun rune and start typing up a paragraph on how I apply it directly to their forehead.
It's not exactly a solution in case we need more cultists to summon nar'sie, but that's what ghosts are for!
As for a story, when I play my surgeon character, she's always a cultist in my headcanon, and on non-cult rounds she's simply there to instigate rivalries and generally fuck things up without touching grief when she can get away with it between basic bitches who are not cultists in preparation for a cult round in which she is there to propagate the completion of the grand rite, after which in my head canon the galaxy is infected with a sickness that infects all those not touched by the blood of the geometer, killing them kind of like the black death and securing the galaxy, or rather the places in which people were wiped out, as a place for cultists to call their own without having to hide the love of nar'sie.
In any case what I came here to say Nikolai is that we can be better than what the mechanics 'force' us to be .
