I have a lot of feelings about cult. Mostly that it's awesome, and it can be because this is a heavy roleplay server and roleplaying creepy and roleplaying being creeped out is a thing that can happen, that can't happen on many other servers. I'm a fan of the mythical imaginary long drawn out cult round that appears to be extended except you know who the cultists are because they're meing shit about the darkness in the room thickening when they walk into the club, and they go about slowly, talking to people, making connections and luring them into quiet, dark places where they lay their runes, and with promises of power invite their ho's into the brother/sisterhood of Nar'sie. But of course, those don't happen.
I think it's a beautiful thing we have here when we can do things like play a ling who while not having the verbs to do something like, expand horrible flesh tentacles out from their belly and produce a mouth with a thousand teeth to consume a skinny ho named Jason, they still do it!
Or when you can emote sending people visions as a cultist, glaring at something so that it grows insect legs and crawls along the floor, write out a set of long detailed conversion emotes that involve spiriting the potential ho off to a place with birds and bees and shit, where you'll chase them through the forest until you catch them, and a goatheaded man arrives changing between a thing with an owl for a face, an ugly old hag, and an ugly naked guy covered in dirt and force them to supplicate to it until you can click that pretty red rune and they convulse, or my personal favorite letting the eyes flash a dull burgundy, like the colour of fresh blood.
It is my sincere hope that I am not making an ass of this or myself simply because I'm infatuated with the mode, I mean as far as game modes go, like as infatuated as one can get with ss13. I just really like disturbing characters in a way that results in no actual danger to them. I mean they don't know that, but whatever. Again, I have a lot of feelings.
I forgot why I was righting this in the middle of that paragraph with the goat, so let's just use this thread to talk about cult! Hail Nar'sie, tbh.
Edit: Let me be clear, use this thread to talk about what you hate and what you love, how things can improve in the meta of our community and why you would rip out your soul for Nar'sie!

Cult sucks.
If Changeling didn't exist, I'd say cult needs to be removed instead.

Cult round just know was bomb. I think if the admins keep things exciting enough for the crew to be wary about eeeevulll spiiiiriiiits then it's a pretty badass game. Seriously, admins can make cult fucking badass if they give the cult some support with otherworldly spirits that toss people like me into grinders.

But... A total of 9 people is a lot to make cultists, if the spirity admin thing happens then how will we convert anyone without them going "NAH LETS NOT GO INTO THAT DARK CORNER TOGETHER I HEAR THERE ARE EVIL SPIRIRTS AND SHIT" Or calling a shuttle when that happens one too many times and then nar'sie never comes, and lets be real. If nar'sie doesn't come it takes a lot to have happened in the round to make up for that. I just feel like people complain about lolculting resulting in gank conversions, and those are really valid complaints, but if the cultists never have the chance to convert, what do they have?
Also, faithless npcs don't distingush between cultist and not, and wreck so much shit its sad

I love culting with Ehco it is a nice low key affair. The problem is the meta police. One round example. The entire time I was with him all we heard in OOC was this is boring the cult is not doing anything. Echo desynced near the end when right three cultists lost their shit and went after the one officer who saw them, causing the failing of a summoning. After an entire round of complaining of inactivity the same people labeled it a gank filled round for a single case of gank from one cultist who would not follow orders. The transfer shuttle was called precisely because the cult was being surreptitious and moving itself in to place with RP by the barrel. And there fore not doing anything.
It is a loose loose case. Either 'The cult is bad it is not doing anything so it is like extended.' Or 'The cult is doing things, I want my extended RP' I hear this in OOC from the same people.
Cult. Like extended [Yeah thats right I said it], traitor, ling, rev or anything else gets fucked over by someone taking it to far for a kill when its not appropriate. As cult requires many members it gets a lot of flack for the single bad eggs. The hardest part for an RPing antag is to not get a shuttle call via the meta police for no /fun/ generation when you try to be quiet about your goals.
So. Yay for cult, and traitor [especially mongus], for ling and for nuke. The whole game world is extended if you bother to look at it. The options are merely extended 4 event.
Oh last minute idea. Next time someone demands extended 4 event and you don't want to. Make it and add a traitor from a normal round type.

Forgotten hit the nail straight on its head.
There will always be people who do not like X, and love Y; and then there will be people who do not like Y, but love X. The issue comes from the fact, that if one side doesn't get what they want, they make themselves heard. The people who do get what they want, usually remain calm and quiet, because they have no need to be heard.
There will always exist people who hate: cult, because nar-sie gank/boring round; RP-Rev, because gank/nothing going on; nuke ops, because gank/security meta/powergaming. But I intend to keep all modes in play, regardless.
And, at the end of the day, a round is what you make of it.

At the end of the day: sit back, relax, stop making mountains out of every minute molehill, and enjoy yourself.
It's a game, after all. While you're playing, you should be making the best of whatever scenario you're put in to, not struggling against it in a very loud (and annoying) fashion. It makes everyone's lives easier.

Cult can be fun, even if I've begun to get sore about the concept of magic in a sci-fi game, I've actual issues with changeling, but cult can be fun. Unless half the cultists go SSD. then your gonna have a bad time.

Cult would be more fun if the crew didn't go hunting.
I remember a cult round a week or so back. I got all the words quickly, and decided to start converting. Set one of the small Sotrages off the corridor up as a converting room, with chairs and the like. Lurked outside it, someone walked past. I stuntalismaned them and dragged them in, buckling them to a chair, stripping them and gesturing for them to be silent. Said person, as soon as the stun wore off, picked up a fire extinguisher and tried to beat me down. I managed to beat them enough to weaken them, before buckling them to the chair and gesturing, covered in blood, for them to stay still. They proceeded to unbuckle and beat me to critical.
Remember your roleplay in Cult rounds. These people just did things to you which you can't possibly explain. Don't risk antagonising them without backup.

Another issue, with all antags, is we condone gank, but you need to gank to even have a chance of victory as a cultist, changeling, etcetera. You can't me pulls out talisman and begins queerly chanting, you'd be eating a crowbar in seconds, because speed is key in a game where our combat is based around 'who is on ass first loses a majority of the time'
I had a changeling who tried to have his way with me after I left, and came back to discover he had strapped a electro pack and shoved me in a secret room. Like fuck Rai was gonna talk, she barrelled past and escaped while screaming murder and rape. Turns out he never set the electro pack right, so I was a bit lucky. Don't know why it was even set up, I hadn't even been planning on returning.

I feel I would be much less scared of cult if two things were changed. The cultists are not able to force people into the cult. The one thing that really puts me off is there are people who get desperate and start the flash and drag onto a convert rune. I have before said in LOOC "I'm just going to ignore you all." because of that. I feel it would be better if it was like RP Rev, where you get to say yes or no.
The second thing I would really really want to change is the end objective. Narsie. There is no god damn way of living after Narsie is spawned. The server lags because of the destruction, and it takes way less then ten minutes for Narsie to follow the ghosts over to escape or the pods. Everyone dies in the most ganky kind of way.

One: adminhelp if that happens. Forced conversion is acceptable if RP-d, if not, it's gank. Two: there are ways to survive Nar-sie. I've done it, through a lot of luck and quick thinking. What else would you propose as their objective? And they do have secondary ones, which they need to execute. Nar-sie is kind of the optional crescendo.

You say he is survivable, but the only way I see that is to jump off the station. I don't have characters who see jumping off into deep space as a good option. Anyway, I feel that there are more better objectives. The ones like convert enough people, learn all the different chants... get 2 sp00ky levels to the max kind of thing. Could even make an objective to construct an alter or cult church... converting the station into a cult hub or something. It would be much better if the end result of a round was not to have everyone dead.

Nope, I managed to run the fuck away from him, onto the shuttle, and live. He was spawned on the holodeck as well, which is close enough. ANYWAYS, going off-topic with this.

I guess I've only had bad experience then. I know he follows ghosts so each time he's been summoned when I play someone was ghosting over me. But yes, there are many different alternatives to 'ending' a cult round rather than everything being eaten by Nar-Sie

Well, here's the thing. Generally, I HATE cult. I HATE HATE HATE it more than anything. Why? Because I feel that the converting system encourages ganking, the theme is generic, and it leaves a round looking like a bloodbath sometimes. But, I have to say. On this server, I've had the BEST cult rounds, mainly through people like Echo.
I feel that any type of gamemode that utilizes the general crew as antagonists, such as when the cult recruits everyone they can to help them, it will end in some poor RP by the less RP-inclusive population (Who don't last very long on a heavy RP server but replace themselves easily) seeking to spite the efforts of the cult for converting them, even with RP.
I don't think there's really much we can do about cult other than voting for extended. Like the others above me have said, the quality of a round depends on the people playing it.
