I feel bad having to make yet another thread complaining about map changes, but I'm honestly fairly disappointed with the new bar we've added today. In an attempt to organize my thoughts, here's a list of the issues I have with it, in the form of bullet points.
I think that covers most of it. It'd be nice to see some kind of response from the mappers, and also, feel free to add any other comments onto this thread.
- The bar is too big. This is a workplace bar, yet it's pretty much the biggest room in the station right now, and looks more like a restaurant bar than anything else. There's now 15-16 seats in it in total, but you'd think you wouldn't want to have it completely filled under normal circumstances, as that means nobody would be working.
- There's a lot of empty space in it. I'm speaking of two big, awkward, 3-wide or 2-wide bands of wooden flooring that have nothing in them, but would be pretty hard to fill at the moment.
- Most of the new design is vertical, although all of the sprites it uses were made to function horizontally. The dispensers/fountains look odd, as well as half the shutters (which can't be easily fixed seeing as they're rolling shutters, not sliding ones), and the side windoor entrance to the bar, with the drink showcase alongside it, look off. Also, I'm not really sure why there's plastic flaps there?
- Some of the furniture is placed in odd rows, such as the row of vending machines, arcade and disposals bin in the top part of the bar, with nothing around it, or the row of equipment in hydroponics covering a full wall.
- Replacing the bar's reinforced counter by a wooden one makes it much too easy to break into that area.
- The kitchen, due to being reduced in size, now lost its suitably-sized table for a spaghetti one, which doesn't provide enough working space for the chef, and looks out of place. The microwaves look odd on a vertical table as they stick out, the hallway-facing counter is too short, and the one directed towards the bar is way too long.
- Hydroponics, while being more efficient, is currently very visually unappealing, essentially being rows of trays on endless black tiling, with one wall housing all of the necessary equipment in another single row. I'm also not a fan of the continuous washed out green tiling in the back room, nor of how much smaller the grassy area has become.
- One thing I like is the bigger table in the bar, which is a comfier place to hold meetings between friends than the bare one in the dorms. It's a bit sad to have lost the booth that was there, though.
