The lights clicked off around the station, one by one, back to back. The crew audibly voiced their concern of now being placed in pitch-blackness. The only thing that could see was the lights from the PDAs, or the flashlights. Engineering was called, and was sent to take care of the problem. Before anything could be fixed though, the communications went out. Suddenly, without a warning from NanoTrasen or anything. It took a while, but the radios began to come on, people wondering if this was another routine system restart by CentComm. Their beliefs were shattered, as a ship docked into the Arrivals docking port, the large ship rumbling the station slightly. Before any of the crew members could speak, a authoritative voice spoke up.
"Hello NSS Aurora. This is a NanoTrasen representative docking vessel. We acquire an immediate Security team to Arrivals, for inspection. We have noticed your power seems to be out. You may deal with that later," the man ordered. Slightly confused, the Security staff made their way to Arrivals. One officer, got there before everybody else and made a shocking discovery. A representative was in handcuffs as well as a muzzle, and was on the ground on the southern windows. The young officer saw at least six men in what appeared to be hardsuits, waving around energy weaponry. The officer, hoping he hadn't been spotted, turned around and tried to leave.
"Security, the representative...something is wrong at Arrivals. There are guys with guns..." he spoke, his voice soft. Before he could get past the lobby, one of the armored men he must have passed by blocked his escape. With a word, the man delivered a hard blow to the officer, knocking his unconscious body to the floor with a thud.
What Is This?
This event would be two sides. One side, is the crew, and the other is a rogue NanoTrasen group. Make note, this guys are /not/ Syndicate. Therefore, they don't have to answer to anybody besides themselves. Their actions are purely for their own goals, and betterment.
How Would This Work?
The round would start off normally, and after a while, power would be shut down around the station. A ship, coming up as a NanoTrasen vessel would show up to any synthetics, and one/two NT Representatives would be noted as being on-board. The representative(s) are hostages. Nothing less, nothing more. The rogue group would be able to use them to their advantage, in any way they saw fit. After the hostages, and the group exited their shuttle, a few crew members would be asked to escort the reps to the bridge. Upon a crew member's arrival, the hostage-takers would attempt to arrest the responding person(s). Of course, they don't /have/ to do this, but it would just be one less person they have to keep down. The roles will be listed further down below, but in brief:
The hostage-taker's goal is to eliminate any Security personnel (preferably non-lethally), taking over the Bridge, and control of the ship. To make sure admins didn't just Code Delta the situation, the hostage takers would be able to space the nuke (which I believe is how Code Delta is achieved?). This, wouldn't stop a nearby cruiser from destroying the station, of course. The hostage takers win if the crew is all dead, or arrested and they have control of the station.
The crew's, is to attempt to over-throw the hostage takers by any means possible. Not ramboing, obviously. Most likely, the crew would be forced to hide in the tunnels, lockers, and other places and attack when the hostage-takers were unaware. The crew wins if the hostage takers are dead, flee, or are arrested.
The Hostage Takers
Backstory: This rogue group is a small, rag-tag team of former NanoTrasen employees, from numerous background. Due to the fact that they are on their own, they don't have any funding, nor as much equipment as say, ERT or the Syndies may have. What they do have, is hostages, the knowledge of how the station runs, and a few weaponry that most Security officers would have. This team was formed after multiple years of harsh treatment of these employees, and other people they have worked with. After becoming fed up with the situation, these men and women decided to try and "strike back" at the company, by jumping onto a ship that carried a few representatives from NT, and killing their guards, and taking the reps hostage. Their plan? To make sure NanoTrasen knows even their own employees can be dangerous, and that it doesn't matter if they die, because somebody else will be there, to do the same thing over again.
Equipment: The group is given very little in the way of gear. They /do/ have some good items, but not much. Generally, with a group of eight players, they would start with:
- Hardsuits (custom coloration, possibly?)
- Two energy carbines
- One laser rifle
- Four tasers
- Two boxes of handcuffs
- Night-vision goggles
- Tool-boxes and medical kits.
Also in their "equipment", would be the previously mentioned NanoTrasen reps, who will obviously be in favor of the crew, but can't help or do much. They can be used as body shields, negotiation tokens, or anything of the group's choosing.
Concerns That May Arise: Some people may be wary of another group trying to over-throw the station. This may look like another Nuke Ops, but that is incorrect. The group's goal is the almost opposite of Nuke Ops, their's being that they want the station as intact as possible, and as many people alive as they can, so that they can make sure NT knows their "power".
Something else that may come up, is "what is to stop them from just shooting everybody", and to counter that, you must take their very low weaponry into consideration. If they kill one person, that makes them down one gun, which means the crew is now one step closer to easily beating them. If the group is smart, they will know not to go around shooting people, unless it is necessary.
Winning/Losing Conditions: The hostage takers win if:
- All hostile crew members are disarmed and pacified.
- All crew members are "hostages" in one way or another. If a few have died, this is acceptable, but the alive/dead ratio should be in favor of the alive.
- They have managed to keep the station intact, and gain control.
The hostage takers lose if:
- The crew overthrows them.
- The station is destroyed.
- Most of the crew is dead.
If the hostage takers are being over-thrown, or the station is in a situation will it be destroyed, the hostage takers can feel free to escape using their ship, taking with them anybody they like.
The Crew
The Situation: The station is being attacked. You know that you're over-powered on your own. The only thing you can do, is hope that Security or the command staff can fight these guys off. Knowing the hall-ways, you decide to hide in the tunnels, the storage lockers, the bathroom. Anywhere you can think of. After a while, you begin to find other crew members, who are talking about fighting back. You're only an Assistant you think, but soon the Chef hands you a tool-box, and you nod. It's time to take the station back.
Actions of the Crew: You should be scared as hell. Guys have cut off your power, your communications, and you're hiding. You're not a hero. You're not Rambo. You have to plan. You have to find a way to knock these guys down, one by one. If a crew member attempts to fight on their own, the likelihood of them being arrested would be around 95%, (or should be). To make sure Security doesn't abuse the armory, and just go and shoot all the hostage-takers five minutes in, the Armory is unable to be opened, meaning the Security team only has their tasers, flashbangs, and pepper spray. With no power, they can't just use all their shots five minutes in either, because like the hostage-takers, they can't recharge their weapons now and would be a very easy target. The Heads should attempt to help the crew in any way possible. Engineering can attempt to get the power back on, the effectiveness would be decided by the admins. The crew in general, would be equipped with makeshift weapons. Crowbars, toolboxes, etc. Obviously, a toolbox against an energy carbine isn't a good idea, which furthers the need for the crew to be sneaky snakes, and attack, only when they have the advantage.
Concerns That May Come Up:
People may be thinking, "the crew can just hide, and never come out,". Yes, this is one approach, but the hostage takers would be at closer range, and if everybody is hiding in the tunnels, a few taser shots would end up keeping them all on the ground, and quickly end any hope the crew had of winning. It would be more at advantage, for the crew to spread themselves out in places most people don't go. Of course, the hostage-takers are trying to take the crew hostage, so they won't just be roaming the halls. After a while, probably no place would be "safe" safe.
Win/Lose Conditions:
The Crew wins if:
- They overthrow the hostage takers. (Rescuing the representatives is a big plus, but doesn't /have/ to happen. )
- The hostage takers die.
The Crew loses if:
- The hostage takers find and "arrest" them all.
- The station is destroyed.
Thoughts? Any further concerns? This is pretty rough, but it'll be revised depending on what people believe should be changed.
