Hey guys, me and viking tossed the idea around VERY briefly, but he said he supported it. as QM I find myself wanting to send forms to department heads all the time for authorization on orders placed.. and would love an inter-department faxing / scanning / emailing system built into the requests console or maybe a terminal? The specifics aren't important, I would just love the ability to send files! Thanks for your time and consideration,Kenn "Davik" McCully

There's an ID-swipe on the messaging consoles that shows the name and rank of the ID swiped. Isn't that authorisation enough?
On the other hand, you could run on over there and get some quality RP.

We already have request consoles.
Hrm, it seems a bit redundant to have BOTH. Then again, request console for ease of sending things, like requests, and fax machines for sending things like documents (versus hand-delivering copies).
Should be do-able, just new instances with a few strings of new code, and voila. Will investigate.

Sorry I didn't specify the reasoning. This was for an instance where someone like me, likes a paper copy. Its for roleplay purposes. And yah when its slow I hand deliver but come on where on a space station. Sometimes I'm too busy, or a head is too busy. Another instance would be an employee that came to place an order, and I request head authorization. It would be easy for me to scan one of "my" forms. Its more of a personal rp thing.

Maybe add a print function to the consoles?

Also make them be able to detonate the nuke.

Also make them be able to detonate the nuke. Lol I like your thinking. I love the print idea though. If we could just format a message like you can with paper and print it out that would be great.

I figured the best way to do this would be to let the request consoles have an option to act like a fax machine, select where the message is going then scan the paper. The message will either print out or wait for someone to print it.
Ideas are still open.

Personally that sounds good to me. Even if I could do a virtual form with a virtual signature I would be happy. Linked to the PDA maybe?

Ready for basic use.
How it works: Make sure the console is on the main menu and close the window if opened. Have the paper that you want to fax in your hand and click on the console. A box will appear asking where you want to send it to with a list of all active consoles on the station. When you click ok the console will check to see if the messaging server is on, if it is on your message will be send and the other console will print out the fax. Faxes are not recorded by the messaging server unless someone can convince me they should be. You keep the original paper.
Current known bugs: If there are multiple consoles in an area (I.E. medbay, science, cargo) only the 'lower most' console will print the fax. Medbay < under the CMO office. Cargo < Mining prep Science < Xenobio
Detectives office and Internal Affairs need their console names fixed by the mappers.
