And by Bluespace anomalies, I do NOT mean black holes.
My half-awake self came up with this and I still think it's a great idea, so hear me out and/or shoot me down.
So one round, I remember that bluespace portals started showing up, fucking shit up, and leaving animals and things everywhere. It was absolute chaos and the crew was scrambling to fix it.
And I think it'd make a great event.
Personally, I pictured it in three different flavors -
Corgipocalypse - Based on the rounds (that I have fond memories of) where the admins would spawn corgi pups in, or set up a very complicated puppy-breeding mechanism that flooded the station with cuteness, my thoughts were that these bluespace portals would spew out puppies in the station until stopped; if the crew didn't figure out how to stop it, they would eventually become literally trapped by how many puppies were in the station, or suffocated in a sea of cute.
Junkyard Invasion - The bluespace portal I remember seeing also puked up random garbage - destroyed robot bits, gibbed flesh, etc. So why not a mode with that too? Maybe sometimes big pieces of junk (destroyed bits from other stations? Wrecked space cruisers?) come through and wreck parts of the station, as the round progresses when the portals aren't stopped, and eventually will destroy the station and probably kill a lot of people.
Killer Clowns - Does what it says on the tin. Bluespace-travelling alien clowns that are here for your delicious flesh. No one is safe. And if clowns are too scary, well... sorry. HoNk!
So in general, how I was thinking rounds like this would go, is that it's a secret-only, an admin-selected custom round type (ie, push button and it goes type of code) or just a custom round that can be voted for. If it's voted for, towards the start of the round/shortly before the portals started appearing, you'd get a central command message - "We don't know what last shift was working on, but we're getting some abnormal readings from your station. Keep an eye out for anything unusual." and midway through, you'd get an update saying something to the gist of a researcher last shift was gotten ahold of and they admitted to screwing up a bluespace experiment, creating an unstable rift. Theoretically if the rift is sealed (it would be located in a random, somewhat-isolated location on or near the station) things would go back to normal... but if not, evacuating or calling an emergency response team for containment is advised.
I figure this would also make science more useful as bluespace research would have to be done to create something to seal the rift.
So yeah, that's the whole thing. I welcome all commentary.
