Diamond
Diamond is a habitable world in the Kepler-22 system, a large oceanic world, Diamond has roughly 1.5 gee gravity. Human settlements are primarily on the equatorial islands, and the planet’s singular continent, Garnet.
Technologically, the civilisation founded by the EE colonists is regressive, relying on brute manual labour created from cloning technology, rather than the advanced robotic systems that were once available on the colony ships.
The Planetary Council relied on oppressive implantation technology developed for the first generation of clone workers. This technology allows them to subjugate vast numbers of workers, keeping their economy booming with cheap, loyal, and effective slave labour.
Specific castes were created inside the slave population, primarily related to the entertainment industry, vat-grown athletes, singers, and dancers were created en masse to accommodate for the growing decadence of the elite population.
As the slave population grew, the rich elite grew complacent, and stopped implanting the slaves, leaving millions of new workers free to think. Several slave members of the entertainment industry managed to get themselves off world, seeing that the planet was facing a crisis.
As the slave population grew still higher, diseases began to spread, the cloning vat operators had neglected to add immunities to their products. Slaves died in their millions as pandemics ran rampant through the population, while the immune upper class remained unchanged.
The growing crisis came to a head when yet another disease began to spread through the population, it caused significant electrical disruption to the victim’s nervous system, in doing so, it shorted out the suppression implants that still controlled much of the population.
As the implant had controlled much of the population’s emotions, those freed from it went into animalistic rages, reverting to tribal behavior as they were exposed to the unknown environment. Those that had not been implanted quickly took control of these tribal groups, their weapons knowledge granting them an advantage over their deranged kin. Organised attacks against the upper class were launched across the planet, many of the smaller islands fell within the first week as villas and castles were breached, and the inhabitants tortured to death in ways that cannot be repeated.
In desperation, the remaining members of the upper caste, less than ten thousand, out of the five hundred thousand that had been living before the rebellion, detonated thousands of fusion and fission devices in an attempt to reduce the numbers of the rebelling population.
The thermonuclear devices had a secondary effect that neither side had anticipated. The intense addition of heat to Diamond’s atmosphere caused catastrophic weather changes across the globe. Immense winds swept across the oceans, forming vast tropical storms, dwarfing entire islands.
These storms, these avatars of wrath, swept across the planet, the detonation of the devices had spawned at least a dozen of the vast hurricanes. Shielded castles were obliterated before the force of five hundred mile an hour winds, entire islands disappeared beneath the sea as storms swept the surface away.
Garnet was devastated, the size of the storms were such that after making landfall, they continued all the way across the continent, ripping huge swathes of land away, killing millions.
The storms lasted for three months, before the atmosphere returned to a seeming calm, most of the oceanic islands had disappeared beneath the waves as the polar icecaps melted; and Garnet was reduced to bare rock, every scrap of life had been swept away by the waves.
It is suggested that survivors exist, the lucky few that had been at sea, in the right locations, to avoid the tempests that swept across the globe. Even underground shelters had not saved those on land, however, all sign of human habitation was swept away by the colossal storms, leaving it as debris and flotsam in the waves.
