I like the idea of removing cloning, but maybe make it something that only happens in certain round types, just an idea a nice compromise ^_^ Sent from my HTC Desire 300 using Tapatalk

A few points I've noticed.
Firstly. Advanced cloning is rarely used as it is. This is the one where after being cloned the medical team does more than toss them in cryo and dose them with alkysine. Cloning has always had imperfections, most often in looks around the hair most often noticed and the occasional disability. Meaning when cloning fully both sections of the lab are used to produce the clone, a clean SE and the deceased UI+UE. After that there is also the issue of limb transplants if they had rotbotics, meaning a single clone can easily take the work of a surgeon, chemist and a geneticist working together to reproduce one crew member even before they wake up for 'the story'. Removing genetics would mean a higher reliance on chem for SE errors and removal or a nerfing of UI errors IMO.
Secondly. Many current geneticist I have encountered as of late have been the "I only clone dead people." & "I am here to work on powers." People showing no RP knowledge in basic medical training (Equal to a one day first aid course.) even in what is considered a dual discipline field some times to the point of ignoring dead crewmen in favour of there own power trip or letting someone die in front of them because they refused to preform CPR or apply a bandage as they are 'not that sort of doctor.' And having obscenely little respect for the dead if they do deign to do anything with them. Removal of Genetics purely with no changes of access to the geneticist or other medical members would lead I think a bigger case of SSD geneticists when needed than we have now.
Thirdly. The matter Sgtsammac bought up about the bodies being returned to Central is used sparingly if ever even thought it is supposed to be part of the shift end process like the SSDs. Though we are all guilty of ignoring this.
Fourthly. There has been talk in the suggestion board of organ printers for transplants and resuscitation of people to a certain point. If we are to switch it up or remove parts a balance of new things for them to do as a geneticist vs ways to get around death a little without them ala crash carts would need to be considered.

Find it funny how everyone thought Carston was crazy when he removed genetics from MA xD also I agree with what you said Forgotten, but I still love rp'ing genetics, writing notes, all of that. Can we remove cloning, and keep genetics if we do remove stuff?

I'd be fine if the genetic research portion was removed, because the only ones I see who use that are chucklefucks who like to go around and play with superpowers.
However, I am really against removing cloning. Rather, I would like to see it become a lot more complicated, so it has to take up the space left by removing genetics. I watched the movie The 6th Day yesterday, and it gave me an idea: how about we have a cloning method similar to the one in that movie, where blank templates have to be used infused with a subject's genetic material and memories to actually clone a person? It would give a use for monkies and humanization of them for something other than brutal torture and gaining superpowers, and it would add the extra steps necessary to bring genetics on par with a department like virology.

I think that if we could make Genetics harder, it'd get rid of the morons in a hurry. How many people honestly bother with Telescience, turned off because it requires a little High School math to figure out and includes a random element that makes it harder for someone to just lolteleprot the spare ID and contents of the armory to them?
I like genetics as as idea,it is fairly integral to the lore, I'd like to keep it. But I think it should be harder, and the morons who just play serum-roulette until they turn into X-men should be punished for it.
'Congratulations, you got hulk and resist heat. The AI no longer thinks you're human, and your genetic code is so scrambled that you can never be cloned or borged.'
Add more detrimental defects to make roulette more perilous - like a hunger bar that diminishes twice as fast as normal, malfunctioning/clumsy limbs, hallucinations/schizophrenia and narcolepsy.
Add a randomization/math element so it's harder to just spam until you hit paydirt.
And I'm totally on board with making cloning more expensive. Biomass i ls easy-peasy to come up with, but requiring massive amounts of power/time to clone someone? That hits the spot.
"Listen, this guy spent the first hour of the shift picking fights and trying to kill Ian, then drank himself to oblivion when he got ignored. Never once even set foot in his work station. Can we really justify committing half of our power and the CMO'S full attention to deciphering his genome to bring him back?"

Never assume making something harder will get rid of griefers, it'll wittle it down so only the most talented griefers are left, and you don't want to be dealing with that... Ala Mousehunt, the first person I ever banned as a mod on Apollo, my griefer nemises... *shudders*

The last thing I remember from genetics was watching a group of cultists fully suited in powers beating the ever space jesus loving christ out of me as HOS and my officer.
As well, I love the idea of a more complicated cloning process, as it would be more interesting to see/asshole medic wont go 'BUT I HAVE GENETICS TRAINING, I CAN CLONEZ' All the time
