Laser tag can be a fun part of the station. Your characters can have stress relieved, or just play with their friends. Also, it can be considered a means of practicing using ranged weapons. Because a lot of us need practice at being robust.
There is one problem though. Well, not really a problem, but something that bothers me a little.
When you are shot with a laser, you fall to the ground. However, with a real laser, you don't necessarily go down immediately unless you're some crazy cultist or some shit.
For the purposes of training, exposure to the combat system for newer players, and ways of fighting your friends without killing them and getting ahelped, I suggest we add a "hardcore" system for laser tag. There are two ways this can be implemented.
1) Holodeck.
This is probably the easier way, in terms of coding and convenience. Add a holodeck simulation titled "Shooters". It will spawn you two tables at either end with holo-laser guns, and a randomized array of obstacles, ranging from flipped tables, crates, lockers, etc. The lasers do damage to imitate the real thing, so it's not just first hit you win. Keep shooting, take cover, and if you're getting pinned down, shoot better. The lasers could possibly have limited ammo, or regenerate as laser tag guns currently do. Problem is, holodeck is a bit small. People might prefer a more open range like the hallways and such.
2) Laser tag settings.
The lasers could have a toggle-able setting on them initiating "Hardcore mode". Maybe the vests, too. If a hardcore-active laser hits a hardcore-active vest, it sends some "artificial damage", like holodamage to simulate getting shot with a real E-gun. If a hardcore-enabled gun hits a regularmode-enabled vest, it makes a noise to indicate the person is cheating. It could probably yell "Cheater!" on whoever is wearing it. This is probably a lot harder to code and implement, but I'm sure some players will appreciate the added sense of SS13 "realism" while fighting with these laser guns.
Those are my two suggestions. Please offer feedback, criticism, alternative ideas, etc.
