She whirled around as a hideous screech echoed through the village. A grey, blurred shape scuttled rapidly at the turned back of one of the skirmishers. Iris yelled a warning and the man half-turned before the creature was on him. Iris watched with horror as the front of the man’s chest bulged for a moment, then a long, metal tipped claw burst through his ribcage. The creature jumped onto its prey, claws rending long strips of flesh away from the doomed skirmisher. Within moments the creature began moving again, leaving a mangled, gnawed corpse in its wake.
With another screech, the creature set eyes on Iris, and bolted forwards, claws scything as it scuttled across the intervening space. Iris pulled on her rifle trigger as fast as the weapon allowed, pounding shot after shot into the rough chitin of the creature.
The creature ignored the small arms fire, rough slugs of steel ricocheting off of its hide as it ran. Iris stumbled backwards, still firing as a curious whining filled the air.
The creature staggered to the side as it was struck by an incandescent shard. It chittered wildly, and swung back on course to attack Iris, before another dozen shards and beams struck it.
The grey chitin fissured under the intense energy, viscous white ichor searing black from the heat. The creature collapsed spasmodically, rolling forwards several metres. It let out a low warble, and then fell motionless.
Iris took a few steps forwards, keeping her crude rifle raised at the creature’s head. Now that it had stopped moving, she could get a good look at it. It was at least three metres long, with thick grey chitin armour covering it, Iris could see metal plates bolted onto the creature’s back. It had six legs on its underside, layered in chitin, and another two scything claws beside its head. Its head was large, with two rows of four eyes, and a large set of mandibles, soaked in blood.
The rest of the skirmishers had gathered around in a loose circle around the creature, all weapons raised towards it. Nelthar spoke quietly and distinctly, “What the fuck is that thing?” One of the skirmishers stepped forward, prodding the creature with an energy blade. The blade glanced off of the chitin, and the creature twitched, a long ripple of motion flowing down its body, its legs spasmed wildly. The skirmisher took a hasty step back.
“I wouldn’t do that, if I was you.” Called a voice from behind Iris. The skirmishers spun around, weapons raised again towards the voice. “Come out.” Called Nelthar, scanning the deserted village with his rifle.
A metallic figure stepped out from behind a house, quickly followed by several others. The skirmisher’s weapons lowered as the armoured marines strolled forwards. The leading soldier glanced around the village, “Looks like you have been having some fun, I hope you don’t mind that we took the Lirit for ourselves.” He gestured towards the now-motionless insectoid. Iris shook her head fervently, “Thank you,” The soldier nodded once, before slinging his own weapon, a long barrelled, sleek assault rifle, over his shoulder. “I don’t suppose you have a base camp anywhere nearby…?”
An extract from something I have written. The primary thing I want people to look at is the creature involved. The Lirit. I think this would make a good addition to the mob pool, it is larger than an alien or Carp, and would make a good boss mob for events, or as a rare spawn as a little insect that grows, like spiderlings. It would be fairly resistant to ballistics, weak against Energy and Laser. It would have a powerful CC attack, and would move very quickly, preferable while screeching something. It is only semi-sentient.

Yes. Because we need more things that can kill us horribly.

Yes, because it sounds awesome but the skirmishers are a halo thing right?

Nope, that was an extract from my Sci-Fi novel, there is a halo reference in there though.

From my well-thought out and educated standpoint, I heavily suggest that you 'buff' the creature's abilities in order to achieve the maximum levels of roleplaying. For example, you should modify the creature to the point to where it is imprevious to all forms of damage and to where it is capable of ripping a grown, hardy man in two with one slight touch of a claw. Another important aspect to consider is to ensure that this creature can pass through any obstacle and of utmost importance, that it is bald. These are just some ideas that should improve your creation; I trust that you are capable of conjuring up the rest. Good luck.

They would be dangerous, and probably bald, being insectoids.

I like the idea, but it seems slightly less threatening that it's weak against lasers, seeing as they're essentially the only lethals we keep aboard. Perhaps the reverse would make it more 'boss'-like, having to fend it off while ballistics are ordered from cargo, or the potential for an antag to redeem themself? (or at the very least, add the temptation on security to break space-law and use confiscated contraband weapons)

hmmm...My thoughts on it were chitin would be more resistant to ballistics, but wouldn't conduct thermal energy well, cooking it from the inside... I could have it be one of the tamed ones that has metal plating...Then it would be the opposite.

Bump, lets see if we can get enough votes to get Skull to consider it.

Why not both?

Fast and resistant to lasers? It would wipe out the station,

Fast and resistant to lasers? It would wipe out the station, I ment one that was resistant to lasers, and another that was resistant to ballistic

Possible, I considered that, it is down to Skull, I have given him a document on their mechanics, if he chooses to add them.
