DECLASSIFICATION COMPLETE SUBJECT: POWER SINK DEVICES DATE UPLOADED: 10/11/2455 DATE LAST MODIFIED: 13/04/2456
A power sink device utilises a super-low resistance Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage unit, with disabled safeties, to rapidly drain power from an electrical system. However, as the SMES unit is very small, the power it can store safely is minute, therefore, a zero-width Bluespace rift generator is connected to the device, through which the energy collected by the power sink is vented as thermal energy. The venting process is inefficient in the extreme; the slightest flaw in the rift can cause the heat to build up rapidly inside the SMES unit, increasing its resistance further, and therefore increasing the heat produced. As this temperature builds, the device can undergo a critical system failure, causing the SMES to dump it’s collected energy into the rift generator itself, this overloads the system, and can cause a concussive blast capable of breaching the hull of a vessel. As of yet, our research has yet to generate an efficient enough Bluespace rift to be able to create a prototype, but we are progressing at a satisfactory rate.
