Epsilon Eridani IV Conflict
05NOV2426: Eridani Corporate Federation discovers ground activity of separatist movement on Epsilon Eridani IV.
10NOV2426: Separatist movement demands independence of the ECF.
11NOV2426: Eridani Federation Navy forces begin orbital bombardment of the planetary surface.
25NOV2426: The orbital bombardment ceases after it is seen to be ineffective, a land assault is launched, with brigades five through thirty forcing a landing in hostile territory.
12DEC2426: Severe losses sustained in suppression force due to guerrilla tactics used by separatists.
30DEC2426: All contact lost with suppression force after the detection of the detonation of a large thermonuclear device.
13JAN2427: First and Second fleet scouts confirm that the suppression force was neutralised.
07FEB2427: First and Second fleet retreat to Epsilon Eridani V.
15AUG2427: The Second fleet returns to orbit Epsilon Eridani IV, forming a blockade of the planetary surface while new tactics are formulated.
17NOV2432: The Second fleet is unable to stop a blockade running vessel from escaping into Bluespace, the first vessel to escape the blockade.
23MAR2433: The First fleet arrives at Epsilon Eridani IV, accompanied by a ENV Redemption.
15APR2433: Volleys of drop pods are launched against the planetary surface, scattering countless intelligence devices and dozens of agents across the surface.
01MAY2433: The Eridani Corporate Federation approaches their neighbour state, the Sovereign Government of Stormswrath, to discuss the possibility of military support, despite the protestations of the Eridani Federation Military leadership.
15MAY2433: NEST operatives find and eliminate mineral supply lines in the eastern hemisphere, greatly weakening the long term production capabilities of the rebels.
07JUN2433: An unexpected Bluespace jump by the SDF Charged Wind raises alarm as it emerges five hundred kilometres from the blockade. This jump signifies the start of Stormswrathian involvement in the conflict. The Charged Wind was carrying a full contingent of five hundred SDF Armoured Anti-terror marines.
15JUN2433: Three Armour marine companies are deployed by drop pod to assist the NEST operatives with higher-risk operations.
22AUG2433: NEST operatives locate and destroy a biomass production facility, significantly reducing the food stores available to the rebel faction.
19NOV2433: A concerted attack by rebels against a known NEST staging camp leads to heavy losses on both sides. The unprepared NEST operatives were relieved by a combined task force from other staging camps as well as an Armour marine company. The attacking rebel force was surrounded and many leaders were captured. Casualties in the attacked camp exceeded four hundred; the camp was abandoned soon afterwards, with the survivors split between the remaining camps.
02JAN2434: A series of nuclear strikes across the planet significantly weaken the foothold of the EFM and SDF forces, leaving thousands dead. brigades 97-103 are neutralised, as are Armour marine companies Tirion and Blaze.
16APR2434: Orbital scans locate a large stockpile of nuclear armaments from the neutrino emissions. An assault is organised.
25MAY2434: The assault on the weapon outpost is launched, with orbiting vessels deploying troops directly onto the battlefield with a modified BBBS, provided by Nanotrasen. The impetus of the attack is such that many rebels surrendered immediately when the experimental Yatrin blade tank was deployed onto the field.
01JUN2434: A series of raids against detected outposts whittles the rebel faction down as their forces are seemingly unable to replenish themselves.
09JUL2434: A devastating counterattack by previously undiscovered forces inflicts crippling casualties against the EFM and SDF, leaving over seventy percent of all operatives and marines KIA or MIA.
15JUL2434: The ENV Redemption and the SDF Charged Wind station above the remaining staging camps, utilising scanners and pinpoint fire to eliminate assaults and missile strikes against the surviving forces.
12AUG2434: Conscription is discussed amongst the leading faction of the ECF.
16AUG2434: Conscription is announced. Both sides reach a stalemate as they attempt to recoup their losses, many previously destroyed outposts are rebuild, however, the rebel’s nuclear armament, and ability to create more nuclear weapons is obliterated in the final NEST raids of that year.
The two opposing sides stalemated for over a decade,
19NOV2450: Unexpectedly, the EFM unleashes a devastating assault across the entire planet, utilising advancing technology to strike the underground outposts with orbital fire, eradicating tens of thousands of separatists.
05DEC2450: The last major outpost of the rebels is discovered, the former headquarters of the Atrix Corporation research division.
10DEC2450: Espionage reveals that a number of prototype technological templates are stored in the facility, causing large discussions among EFM leadership.
17DEC2450: A ground assault is agreed upon, with the new proven Yatrin blade tanks, Landstrider Mechs and SDF assault teams taking the fore, while EFM forces provide elite fast strike operatives and ground control platoons.
23DEC2450: The ENV Redemption and the SDF Charged Wind perform atmospheric descents, falling to fifteen thousand feet above the facility.
25DEC2450: The assault begins, with the Nest Cruiser and the SDF Charged Wind providing overwhelming air superiority, the ground forces move forward quickly, with minimal losses, however, as the ground force became fully mobile, a large Bluespace rupture was detected near the moon of Epsilon Eridani IV.
The following engagement was swift and brutal. The ship that had successfully escaped the blockade earlier in the conflict had returned with a large number of unmarked vessels, which immediately engaged the surrounding EFM fleets. The SDF Charged wind attempted to breach the atmosphere, as within an atmosphere its shields were disabled. However, its manoeuvre was detected, it was struck with a laser battery barrage between 0812-0815 hours, disabling much of its electrical systems and forcing it into an uncontrolled descent to the planetary surface, severe damage was sustained. The ENV Redemption was more successful, its superior engines allowed it to quickly move around the planetary terminator, before attempting to ascend, allowing it to reach orbital altitude.
With the orbiting fleets fully engaged, the remaining hostile vessels were able to bombard the now undefended ground forces, killing many, only a small fraction had managed to enter the Atrix facility before the battle had begun.
The ENV Redemption however, was not engaged in the battle, due to it being over the opposite hemisphere; as the ship began it’s rapid flight around to the combat, it’s captain ordered the safeties on one of it’s torpedoes to be disengaged, and the device’s core to be overcharged.
Upon gaining sight of the hostile bombardment craft, the ENV Redemption fired this torpedo, it’s plasma flume causing significant structural damage to the cruiser as it did so, however, this flume caused the torpedo to travel at a not inconsiderable percentage of light speed, on impact with the bombardment craft, a small fraction of it’s mass was converted into energy, however, this small fraction still exceeded the plasma formation limit of steel. The resulting plasma flare caused severe damage to the bombardment craft, as well as destroying several dozen scanner satellites.
The severe damage sustained by the bombardment craft rendered them defenceless to the sustained fire by the ENV Redemption, and they were quickly destroyed by concentrated laser fire.
With the orbital bombardment halted, the ground forces continued their assault, sections of the facility fell immediately as stealthed NEST operatives eviscerated guards and opened sealed areas, allowing armoured marines access to the rebels within.
The ENV Redemption launched an attack against the hostile fleet, in support of the accosted First and Second fleets, however, the balance of the battle was very evenly matched, the numbers of the unknown ships against the surprise tactics and technological superiority of the EFM vessels. The battle shifted in the EFM’s favour when a distress call, broadcasted from the SDF Charged Wind, resulted in the rapid mobilisation of the Stormswrathian Navy; though smaller and undoubtedly weaker than the EFM’s as a whole, each of the ships were a force to be reckoned with, this slight shift of power gave the EFM’s ships the space they needed to bring their more advanced weaponry to bear, causing immense devastation amongst the hostile fleet.
With the battle turning into a rout, the unknown ships fled the system, jumping into Bluespace directly from the battle. With the loss of their orbital support, the rebels surrendered quickly, and the Atrix facility was claimed by the EFM.
With the rebel forces defeated, the ECF thanked the Government of Stormswrath for it’s assistance, and began setting a watch on Epsilon Eridani IV, and beginning to extract the technological templates within the Atrix facility.
