Nanotrasen is seen as one of the most powerful military powers in the known galaxy. To manage and secure there vast military force the intelligence branch of Nanotrasen is just as powerful. The NT’s intelligence branch, otherwise known as the Nanotrasen Secret Services and Operations Task Force, known as NTSS makes up a very large backbone of NT’s strength. The men and women working in the NTSS have jobs dealing with all kinds of espionage operations. From counter-terrorism, analysis, field works, cyber security and much more. All of these people make it possible for the NTSS to fulfill their duty. The mission statement of NTSS states, “To provide information and security to Nanotrasen her allies, assets as well as any and all other possessions deemed important to her.”
NTSS uses a frigate class ship, the NMV Osedda, as the main base of operations for high up officers and agents. The frigate is capable of launching and landing small crafts due to a custom design made specifically to allow operatives more flexibility in returning to Headquarters. The Osedda also has a very reliable and classified hacking system onboard that is used to jam frequencies in space incase of a much needed defensive measure. The vessel is by no means capable of fighting, there are no guns placed inside the ship as all of them were removed in order to add more room for the crew. A crew of 300 personnel man the ship on average. An automated AI is used to control most of the ships actions as only members of the NTSS are allowed onboard.
Leading the head of intelligence is a man or woman known only as, The Principle. On average the Principle is an older human who has been of service to the NTSS for many years. Now, there have been Principle's who are not human but they are not common. At all times the Principle is guarded by a robot known as the Arbiter. This bot is slaved to follow the Principle orders without question, extra fiber plating was put on the robot in order to make it more durable to hits or gun shots. A highly experimental shield was recently placed on the Arbiter to serve as a protective measure to any laser weapons. Seeing as this bot is always with the Principle it should be clear that the common function of said bot is to protect the Principle from harm, a highly advanced artificial intelligence is placed inside.
The AI is filled with the knowledge of all forms of martial arts as well as a unique probability chance used to predict an opponent's next move based on past actions, fights and combat records. Advanced sensors in the eye area filled with advances scanning devices for pinpoint aiming. Thermal imaging is also present in the robot’s visual sights. One example of the Arbiters skill was ten years ago, there was an assassination attempt on the Principle at the time. The team planning to assassinate her was six men strong, all master’s at what they do. When the attack was launched the Arbiter single handedly took down four of the initial assassins in a crowd full of people hitting all four of them in the head while moving with the Principle. When moving to a secure location the Arbiter fired two bullets into the air, by projecting the wind and bullet velocity the Arbiter shot the teams sniper and getaway driver, 500 yards away.
New recruits are forced to go through a deep and rigorous recruitment phase. NTSS looks for possible agents in young adults around the ages of 21 to 24, a certain criteria also needs to be meet in order to be considered for the training phase. Oftentimes people who have little or no family, few loved ones, a rough childhood. All of these traits make for a good operative. Analysts work a bit differently, they are oftentimes more of the smarter kinds of people, those who know the workings of a device like the back of there hand. When a recruit passes the beginning phase of recruitment they are then sent to a classified planet in an undisclosed location known only as, The Town. Nanorasen has yet to officially acknowledge the planet or the locations existence. The Town is used as a training area for all new recruits. Here the recruits are trained to see if they really have what it takes to become members of the intelligence branch. Classes have a 7% pass rate and are filled with usually 60 recruits. Training consists of espionage, firearms, tech training, survival, language knowledge and many other skills needed in an operatives field. When a recruit finally completes their training there is no guarantee they will actually be selected for operational tasks. However, it is highly unlikely a recruit can make it through training and not be ready for field work, but it does happen.
Once agents have left the Town there training does not end. All operatives are expected to keep up to date on the new advancements from R&D, new fighting styles and great marksmanship. Field operatives can be broken up into three categories. Wetworks, military intelligence/counterintelligence and counter terrorism. Most times an operative is trained in knowing how to work in all three categories but different handlers specialize in differing operations. When a field agent is given an assignment he or she will arrive at that planet and meet with the region officer, there handler, and any assets being used for that operation. The region officer is the person in charge of intelligence on an entire planet, sector, or sometimes even an entire system. These planetary bases are much smaller than the main ship but can operate independently if the Osedda is busy doing other work. Many times these secure bases are in the backs of bars, restaurants or other places nobody ever looks around in.
When an operative’s assignment is completed, be it successfully or unsuccessfully, they will report back to the Osedda for a debriefing, the person leading the debriefing can be there handler, operations officer, region officer and sometimes the Principle themselves will lead it.
NTSS is constantly working to remove all threats to Nanotrasen, plugging up leaks and stopping data from getting out. Most civilians know of the NTSS but hardly ever see them. If an operative is coming to look for you, you have done something wrong. These are the people who make others disappear forever. Agents are given a fifth freedom and authoritative release to investigate anyone and everyone, as well as full leeway in handling out the sentence. Other companies are not out of sight for these people and are constantly in a cold war. A game of spy vs spy is constantly being played by both Nanotrasen and other competitors.
