[Please listen to this song as you read this! It'll add the mood]
Two guards dragged the limp prisoner down the hall. Her orange uniform was rumpled, wrinkled from having been carelessly shoved around by guards. The toes of her prisoner's sneakers skidded along the tiled floors. She hung her head low, tired green eyes unfocused. Her reddish hair hung limply, unkempt, and pulled back in a loose ponytail. Metal cuffs glinted in the floresent lights. She murmured softly in gutter, her words being given little meaning to the guards.
The guards stopped in front of a large metal airlock. One of them lifted their ID to the scanner, swiping his card through. The doors hissed, multiple bolts lifting and unlocking as it opened. They uncermoniously dragged the prisoner into the doom, dropping her to the floor. She grunted slightly, but didn't make any movements. Without a word, the guards turned around and walked out - airlock hissing shut behind them, bolting and locking.
The room was mostly bare. A bed stood at one corner, and a table at the other. The back of the cell had a toilet and sink, as well as a small shower. There were no windows. Out of reach, was a tiny little camera focused on the sole occupant of the cell.

Dreaming of the stars on high
That speak to me in secret sighs
Drifting on a breeze
Only I can feel and hear
That speak to me in secret sighs
Drifting on a breeze
Only I can feel and hear

Could it be the sacred wind
That's calling me to now begin
To walk into the dark
Carrying the light of tomorrow
That's calling me to now begin
To walk into the dark
Carrying the light of tomorrow

Beating of the wings up high
Beyond the earth, beyond the sky
Come now, don't hesitate
Don't look back we got to go now
After awhile, Rose pushed herself up, pulling her stiff legs together and sitting on the floor, crosslegged. She took a deep cleansing breath, sighing softly. Her - no, their - mind, was a-whirl. She could feel the chip in the back of her brain, endlessly implying its subtle loyalty. She shook her head slightly, knowing she couldn't rid herself of its cruel message. "One can have either freedom, or clarity," she whispered softly. "We can't have both. Only the wisemen can have both."Beyond the earth, beyond the sky
Come now, don't hesitate
Don't look back we got to go now
Don't fear, you'll be safe from now on
Morning sky watching over all
"I am free," she whispered. "Even with implant, imprisoned, shackled and chained, I'm free." She closed her eyes slightly, relinquishing this rare gift. "My mind, my thoughts - they are my own. The implant isn't a part of me, and I am the one in control of my choices and paths."Morning sky watching over all
Deep inside so silently my heart will speak
Weeping silently
Memories flickering and shimmering on
Endlessly
The logic was surprisingly simple - Thorns had discovered it. There was no good, no evil. Not NanoTrasen, Syndicate, or Einstein Engines. There were only things as it is. Humans, Skrell, Tajaran, Unathi, and Diona - all creatures had an existence. Loyalty and honor dictated not to an organization, but to a vision. An idea. A meaning. The loyalty chip played a mindgame - if one wished to remain disloyal, they had one of two choices - trick the implant with a loophole, or follow orders unwillingly. Rose and Thorns had discovered the loophole that rendered the chip useless. The very secret that NanoTrasen desired; the knowledge to be free of restraining loyalty. They wanted to remove the threat of Syndicate implants, but keep their own source of loyalty. And they knew Rose's alternate persona, Thorns, could discover the loophole. A persona who saw itself unable to be controlled and shackled. A wild, free spirit unafraid of death or demise, destruction or execution.Weeping silently
Memories flickering and shimmering on
Endlessly
Keep me close to the path
Morning sky watching over all
But they also wanted to control the enigma, and that was not possible with Thorns. She was too wild, and too unpredictable. They couldn't take Rose or Thorns, who's life and views were their own, seperate from NanoTrasen. but they knew if they could analyze Thorns, they could apply the philosophy and psychology to another test subject of Red Roots - Rose's brother, Hawk Silverstone.Morning sky watching over all
Moving on the endless mountains up so high
Walk into the light
Your heart will see the path and you will find the way
Just wait and see
And Rose knew that had to be stopped - for her brother's sake, for her own, and for the freedom of so many other victims of the loyalty chip. It was all a mindgame. Loyalty without cause. Honor without reason. Existence among emptiness. Strength and resolve was all she had - she had to hope and pray that she had enough.Walk into the light
Your heart will see the path and you will find the way
Just wait and see
Moving on the endless sky up so high
Tomorrow
Will follow any route your promise is today
Just wait and see
Gears were in motion - now it was just a matter of time.Tomorrow
Will follow any route your promise is today
Just wait and see
