Hey mysterious stranger! So you've decided to start playing on one of these RP (pronounced: Are-Pee) servers and you're probably overwhelmed with all the different physical traits, professions and antag roles! And I'm sure you're thinking 'Oh! I'll just just in and play to get a hang of-' Hold your fucking horses.

You think YOU can RP? You think RPing is as simple as making a character, joining a server and interacting with people?! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. NO YOU IDIOT, THERE'S A LOT MORE TO IT GOD DAMNIT. But thankfully I, a highly ~*EXPERIENCED*~_{(See: Incompetent, special snowflake)} RP player am here to show you the ropes.

I guarantee the process is (mostly) painless!

So, you've loaded into the server and are smack dab in front of a character create screen. Now you might be overhwelmed with all the physical choices but JUST CALM THE FUCK DOWN OK?!

JESUS, it's not that bad you little baby. In order to make a character that will blend in well, you want to make them as unique and original as possible.

First: You're going to have to choose a sex. This is VERY important, as it determines just about everything about your character. Male characters tend to be roguish brutes most likely to solve problems with their stun stick (if you don't have one, any blunt object will do) with unstable absolutely insane emotional centers, while women tend to be meek lesbians, stuttering creatures who like to solve problems by having severe panic attacks and spacing themselves.

Keep these gender traits in mind when choosing your character.

Also, if you want to be a heartless robotic cunt logical, intelligent machine, go IPC.

Second: Age: either your character is 20-30 or 60+. If you make a character in between you will get no respect and will likely be banned for bad RP.

Second: Assuming you choose a human/alien cause robots r gay. You're going to have to choose a hair color and style. No 'natural' hair colors. Only plebs and nerd have normal, hair colors. Give your character green hair to show how hardcore and awesome they are. Similarly, give them the most crazy, outlandish hair color. To top it off, claim that your hair is naturally this way, and immediately complain when anyone questions how blue-haired liberty spikes is your hair's natural state.

Third: Skin Color: 0 or 255, that's it, no in betweens.

Now you're ready to go!

SHIT, you actually have to write a back story for your characters! _{fucking pain in the ass}

Ok, ok, let's get through this, together.

Well, first thing's first, remember your gender as this will serve as your absolutely sexist, unoriginal template for how your character will act.

First: Backstory. There are an amazing TWO (2) Backstory templates to choose from: Military Commando Extraordinaire and Absolute Genius. Try not to deviate too far from these as characters have trouble identifying with people who are not exact carbon copies of similar to themselves. Next, make sure to add some dead people to your backstory (like family). This makes your character gritty and unique just like everyone else!

Finally, give them that fatal, easy to exploit flaw! Maybe anytime someone says 'New British Empire' they have a panic attack and space themselves! Maybe they have an insatiable urge to flood the station with plasma (Atmos Tech would be a good job to choose!) or maybe they like to solve their problems by hitting janitors till their heads cave in.

Make sure to tie in this trait with their backstory.

For instance: Urist McSmash watched his parents get run over by a monster truck being driven by a corgi, and now he has an insatiable appetite for corgi meat.

It's that easy!

Personality: Now that you have a backstory, it's time to develop a personality. Like your gender, you have two framework options: Absolute emotional wreck and Tough as Nails, fears nothing hulking mass. Choose from these two wisely as this will affect your character greatly!

It's important to tie in your backstory to your personality. It's also important to react to situations appropriately based on your personality.

For instance: Jane Bland is a military commando with 30 years of military experience at the age of 35. She witnesses the Captain being taken hostage by some saboteur. The appropriate RP response, given her personality, is to rush in, with no regard for her or the Captain's safety, and proceed to beat the saboteur senseless. Also, she would shrug off all pain, as she is a badass.

This is a bannable excellent, RP appropriate response based on her personality.

Let's look at another example of someone with a different personality:
Dan Wild has been mentally unstable every since his parents wouldn't get him that puppy for his 5th birthday. He is a surgeon with 25 years of experience at the age of 26. A nurse runs up to him and says 'We have a patient in urgent need of heart surgery!'. Dan responds by yelling: 'YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND MY PAIN' and then proceeds to space himself, depressurizing escape.

Wow! Isn't that believable!?

Evolving personality: It's also important to evolve your personality on the station due to in-game events. For instance, try yelling your backstory at other players to get IC feed back.

For instance:
Margaret Niny: "So I told the guy, I wasn't paying 25 credits for-"
Han Junior: "M-M-M-M-M-M-M-M-M-M-M-Y P-PARENTS DIED I-IN A F-FREAK POTATO C-CHIP A-ACCIDENT" (look at that stutter!)
Margaret: "Uhh...what?"
Han: "I'm going to beat you senseless!"

It's situations like this that advance your character, and make them more believable!Now you're ready to start your shift! If there's one thing to remember is: Your character is special, just like everyone else!
