United Galactic Navy Federation -- UGNF
The UGNF was formed in 2187 by a number of mercenary groups to ensure their success in the expanding wave of human colonies throughout the Galaxy. During the first wave of expansion through the galaxy, by countries rather than by Corporations, the UGNF had large amounts of work; it’s large, well equipped and highly skilled navy hunting raiders and catching pirates and smugglers throughout Human space.
The UGNF Central Command is a massive space station, near the centre of human space, which is well-equipped with all manners of defensive technology, from energy shields to pulse lasers and particle lances. It serves as an imposing reminder to the sheer power that the UGNF wields, and how easily it would be able to defeat nearly any individual human faction with ease.
After corporations began to take over, the UGNF faded somewhat, losing many of it’s original contractors, though some, such as the Mars Confederate, the New British Empire, and the New Marx Republic still remain powerful. Though the UGNF lost some of its power, it still remains a formidable force; it still has massive influence on human space, politically, technologically, and militarily. Even after many of the space-faring nations became independent and withdrew their funding of the UGNF, it is still called in to deal with raiders, bandits and to hunt bounties across the galaxy, being the most well-equipped organisation to do so.
Due to the loss of some of its best contractors, the UGNF colonised several planets themselves, forming technologically advanced societies that produced high-level electronics, as well as founding agricultural worlds.
The strength of the UGNF lies in its fleet and its infantry. The UGNF fleet is colossal compared to the fleets of the corporations, even the minor fleets of the UGNF are several times the tonnage of even a Corporation capital fleets. The high fleet of the UGNF is the strongest ever seen in the galaxy, with dozens of Battlestars supporting a gigantic ten Dreadnaughts, this fleet is easily capable of destroying a small planet, a threat that has often been made against a number of Corporations who refused to allow the UGNF access to areas of space.
The UGNF infantry is the best equipped of all known space, though they are few in number. Each marine is equipped with a set of Juggernaut-class powered armour, letting them survive even tank shells; small arms fire is nearly completely ineffective against them, though ion weapons are a significant threat. The marines are exceptionally well trained, with each of them specialising in a selected field, whether that is demolitions, special ops or standard missions, they are all just as skilled.
The UGNF are widely regarded as the most effective and respectable of the many quasi-mercenary groups that been created since the start of human expansion. It has many contracts with Paramilitary Companies, such as the Armoured Knights or the Shadow Blades, providing them with transport, support and contracts, ensuring a strong friendship between the groups.
Of the UGNF colonised planets, the Terracompatible planet, Rivaltis, in the system of 61 Cygni, is considered the most valuable and important, due to it’s location along the trade route between Tau Ceti, Mars, and Soghun space, it produces large amount of very high quality military equipment, primarily for starships, such as laser batteries, particle lances and force shields. This level of production makes Rivaltis a major shipping centre for both humans venturing into Soghun space, and Soghuns venturing into human space. This racial suspicion and tension is very profitable for the UGNF, especially as no Corporation would dare try and usurp their monopoly on the area, Rivaltis is too well defended for direct assault, and the dozens of weapon platforms in orbit around it are easily capable of defending the planet alone.
With the bulwark of Rivaltis between human and Soghun space, the UGNF earns incredible amounts of credits, enough for it to spread it’s operations over a large area, there are few human planets that do not have a UGNF base, or at the very least an ambassador. The notable exceptions are New Magnitka and the most recently colonised planets of the Tartarus system. New Magnitka refused a UGNF presence, instead preferring to rely on its GEMs and non-affiliated PMCs to defend itself from any threats. The Tartarus system requested a UGNF presence but was denied, the leading elite of the UGNF detest the slave trade, and slaves are too often used by pirates, or smuggled through customs. The UGNF does, however, have an exceptionally large presence in the nearest system, Kruger 60, to the Tartarus system, due to the mistrust and animosity between the factions.
