Background:
Adrianna Cross grew up one of the galaxy's privileged few. Her father, an industrialist, and owner of the Cross Chemical Corporation (a manufacturer of industrial chemicals operating out of the Jovian moons), had an estate New Scarsdale, Europa -- a small, sheltered community with the highest per capita income in the Sol system. Adrianna was a quiet, meek child and made few friends during her early years.
Adrianna excelled in her studies, due both in part to talent and the insistence of her overbearing and ofttimes cruel father. After completing her secondary education she was enrolled in the Orbital University of Enceladus, where it was decided that she was going to follow in his footsteps. After the death of her mother due to an overdose of painkillers (ruled a suicide) Adrianna abruptly severed contact with her family. Upon completion of her studies, rather than entering the employ of CCC, she turned her expertise towards applied chemistry -- specifically its medical and forensic investigative applications, as well as dabbling in forensic pathology.
While forensics has certainly satisfied Adrianna's innate need for puzzles and mental challenges, it hasn't exactly satisfied her family. With Adrianna's abrupt departure, Cross Chemical had lost its heir.
Given her qualifications, Adrianna had free pick of companies to work for, and Nanotrasen had two distinct advantages -- it offered the most competitive pay and its remote research facilities would allow her to put more distance between her and home. She has now been with Nanotrasen for 5 years.
Estranged from her family, and in part due to the grim nature of her work, Adrianna frequently battles with MDD (major depressive disorder), for which she takes medication.
As an adult, Adrianna is no longer as timid as she once was, but she still likes to keep a healthy distance between herself and others, often under the guise of professionalism. This is due to her deep seated mistrust of people in general, and an underlying morbidity in her thinking. After all, anyone she makes ties with could be the next corpse she stuffs into a bag.
Adrianna abuses methylphenidate when her case load becomes too high or she thinks she needs an edge.
