How do our characters get to work? Do we have a commute that we take to get to the station, passing by the same planets and star systems to get there? Maybe some blue space teleportation system, or do we (my option I would love) stay out in that system at some other station that is made just for the crew?
I always liked to see it as the crew does a 6 weeks on 2 weeks off sorta thing. But eh, what's the official reasoning.

The official thing varies from person to person, but generally they get deployed to a station for a while, either commuting to it from a residential station, or staying on it full time.

The way I always saw it was that we all just went our seperate ways at CentComm, and got on a shuttle that takes us back to the terminal in/near our home city. And then when we go back to work, we fly from the city to CentComm and then to the station from there.

This is a small representation of the stars near our home star, Sol. Tau Ceti, which the lovely NSS Aurora is in orbit around, is a yellow star similar to Sol, which is why some astrophysicists believe there could be planets similar to the ones in our system in orbit around it. Such planets could be habitable, or could be terraformed, which is feasible given the level of technology in the SS13verse. Tau Ceti is located in close proximity to several red dwarf stars, which could probably only sustain colonies in orbit around potential rocky or gaseous bodies. The nearest stars that could potentially have life-bearing woulds would be Epsilon Eridani and Epsilon Indi. Skull has already established that Eridani is life-sustaining by creating the Eridani Federation, and Gollee added to that by creating Stormswrath. I don't believe anyone has ever spoken a word about colonies around Epsilon Indi, however. It is also well established that bluespace provides access to faster-than-light travel, so someone who works on the station could feasibly still live on colonies around Sol, such as Luna, Mars, or on the moons and orbital colonies around the gas giants.

Current size of human space is 3000LY radius around Sol, meaning it takes around two months to travel end to end with Bluespace. ((Stormswrath was also before the Eridani Fed, since it was on Apollo, during Tool's reign.))

Ah.
Well, the point stands that given bluespace technology, one could easily commute between star systems.

To the Vox. They're like, giant computer things last time I checked?

No, the Apex is a very large, cybernetically enhanced Vox leader, essentially, they aren't computers.

So, I have a character that I want to have a military background, but not a super OP one. He's Buck, the mechatronic engineer. In his backstory, I wanted him to build and repair military grade mechs and MAYBE use them himself...
I wanted him to be deployed on the field when his arm got blown off, too. The question I have is, what would be the name of the specific branch(s) he could've been a part of?

I'm assuming NanoTrasen military? But yea, building/repairing mechs would make him an Engineer in the Navy or Marines (Army if it's not NT) if he can use them as well he would either be a test pilot or a field engineer attached to a mechanised infantry unit.
(Note: All info is at best guess and you will have to wait for Skull, Gollee or Tim's response.)

If it is Nanotrasen military, then something similar to what Sam said, any other faction ((either yours, or someone elses)) You would have to talk to them directly. ((The New British Empire and the Mars Confederate are Tool's, but I can answer questions on those))

That has yet to be confirmed, feel free to create some, though confirming them with the lore team before using them

Yeah, NT military. So, probably marines would be best for him. Thanks guys.

this is just a general bluespace question. How fast does bluespace technically make you travel (from what ive read here it would be difficult to describe in my mind)

I may have heard, though not 100% certain. That it is 3 or so months of bluespace travel from one side of Human space to the other

Anyone feel like doing a quick calculation for the approximate speed in km/h

Anyone feel like doing a quick calculation for the approximate speed in km/h Quite sure Gollee has the actual speeds. So wait for his reply. How many branches and what branches of military are still active? NT would have little use for forces other than Naval and possibly Marine. An army, occupation force, would be unnecessary due to how they work. So yeah, NT would Just have a large Navy, and a smaller Marine force to augment that.

Highest conventional speeds are 3LYpH, while the highest super experimental speeds, with gateways and the Kronos is 300LYpH
