Hello Aurora station. As of 16APR2014, myself and Yeahchris came to the opinion that a new map is impractical. The primary reasoning being the excessive misuse of the very scant resources we have available to a project which requires resources a lot large than our pool enables - read as: it's a job for an entire team, not Sam and the occasional helpers. Instead, we will be refurbishing existing departments to add our own type of flavour to them. Any input is of course appreciated, and will be taken into account. So please, do join the discussion and let our mappers know what you'd like changed, how you like the updates, and what tiny little things annoy you! This process cannot happen without communication and input from you all! For those of you who are not aware, a unique map, just for Aurora, is currently being made. PumpkingSlice and I are shooting ideas back and forth, as well as laying down the building blocks for the new map. We are going with a special idea, where Aurora is not a station but an outpost. Most departments will be situated on their own asteroids, connecting through a series of tunnels and bridges. All of this is in the works and any suggestions you have can be placed in this thread or the Suggestions board! If you have any experience with mapping, feel free to PM me or our Community Manager MrImATool, and we can try to fit you in to our community development team! As time goes on maybe some juicy spoilers will make their way here...

First things first, Carver needs his own secret place away from the AI. Make it happen F_Sphere. I need a shark tank and some rope like a James Bond villain.

I'd be really careful about this. Undertaking the building of an entire station is no small task, and there's a lot you can fuck up if you're not very careful, knowledgeable, and experienced.
It's a good idea, yes, but perhaps you'd be better off starting with the standard Baystation and changing a bit at a time to suit your vision rather than going from scratch.

I really, really, really, really like this idea. Leaves a lot of room for disaster and stuff, like one department's bridges getting blown up, locked down etc... So, does this mean that each department will be capable of EVA? And if this is the case, I think that there should be a LOT of emergency entrances/exits that are only accessible from the outside in case of such an event.
Also, if it's going to be an outpost rather than a station, how will the power work? I can't imagine there being a singularity in the middle of all of these inter-connecting... deparments? Regardless, I like this idea a lot, sounds really unique and I can't wait to have a look at what you've got in progress. I really wish I could help out, but don't know the first thing about mapping or anything like that. Good luck!

The whole asteroid idea sounds sweet, but, I agree with Dan. I'd rather have the same old functional Baystation for a while instead of a clusterfuck of power and atmospheric problems.

To put minds at ease, we WONT be adding the new map until it's perfect... so until then we'll be operating with the normal BayStation map. ^_^

Perhaps each department should have a few lockers containing "emergency vacuum suits". They could be simple, almost useless pressure suits, placed there to provide the bare minimum amount of safety in order to satisfy company regulations. They can't have a tank attached, and they slow movement greatly. The helmet and suit items shouldn't be able to fit in backpacks, either, to prevent people taking them 4noraisins.

I suppose I've already said this, but a big asteroid off to the side with a cave system, pretty much filled with random stuff like temples, hostile mobs, and loot. Could offer an extra RP element, as well as a fun gameplay element (who doesn't like a little dungeon crawling?)

Maybe some Solar Panels for Each Department completely independant. This was planned. Each department will have a small power source and atmospherics area, as well as a small medical area for emergencies.

In the Science Station on the usual Baystation map, there are transit tubes going around. There should be a sleeper equivalent that you can send injured crew members in to Medbay.

If you do this, please be sure that the "ports" are limited. People need to remember that we shouldn't be trying to make the most safe, effective station design. It's supposed to be interesting and fun.

One or two run down sections on the outpost? Y'know like the vacant office space, or the old robotics bay? Hide-y holes filled with possible criminal activity

Instead of an outpost, why not a colony of sorts? An outpost doesn't seem fitting for the civilian branch. A colony would be much more accustomed to the usual of Space Station 13 role-play.

A whole new map from scratch doesn't require a full team. I've done it with just myself and a good friend twice in the past. It just takes maybe 2 to 3 weeks until you have a final, bug-free, playtested copy. I have done it twice now and each time it has been done within 30 days. I enjoy mapping big projects, I enter a trance. It's good time killing, and I'd happily do it again. I'm currently trying to find a decent station layout to work with.
