I hate changelings. Both as a round type and an antagonist. As far as I'm concerned they're the single most overpowered antag going, especially on a RP server. It's almost impossible to identify a changeling unless they royally fuck up, and it's ridiculously easy for them to evade security and merge back into the population.
I'd as soon remove them honestly. However, short of that, anything that nerfs them at all is a good move. I support this wholeheartedly.

Duck, but everyone will see that just before they dropped, who the last person who touched them was.
I just don't like the idea of outing them as a horrible monster. Mainly because of a changeling round a few days ago.. where none of the crew fear rp'd with the changeling.

Changeling is bad. Really. really. bad.
Not because of theme, but you can't really...DO what the changeling is meant to do as a thing-esque creature without ganking. And if you dont, spam death sting because your invincible and you can't actually stop them from doing it.
It's not great. if they removed Death sting, and a few of the really broken ones and gave it back it's greater form, I might care more.
I dont think making them audible means anything. It's like removing the silencer on a shotgun.

none of the crew fear rp'd with the changeling. Well, yes. That's kind of what happens when changelings are just People Who Make You Fall Over By Being Near Them. They aren't monsters. They don't even come across as monsters most of the time because shoddy roleplaying. So like. Unless you're getting at that the crew shouldn't fear changelings, I don't think I understand what you're trying to say. And Nik. This is barely anything even resembling a nerf, yes. More like a quality of life improvement. I've been on and off hunting down the greater form code for a long, long time now but I have no idea how it works or where it even is. It's pretty gone. The fragments I've found don't really add into anything coherent. But I was worse at it back then. I'll try it again sometime later. Like after projectile code later, and some other stuff.

Someone sneezes a million spiders over someone else Thank you for the new nightmares, Duck. I was getting tired of having the same old ones over and over.

Duck, what I was reffering to is the fact that the entire crew knew that a changeling was on board and watched them murder and suck the fluids from two people, and none of them were afraid, besides me and Inis. I would only approve of nerfing of deathsting if people feared lings more, and if they are given new abilities to make sure that happens, like greater form.

I don't believe theres enough rp with antags to justify a nerf on unless its majorly unbalanced. And this isn't. A security officer hears that my character is a ling, beepsky comes for me or if I'm otherwise found lets be real seven times out of ten I'm going to be shot at on sight without a word in from anybody and a handcuff followed by the soon to follow buckle to a chair, bed or straitjacket, I'm done for the round. Why shouldn't a ling be able to fight back? And the steep price for the sting, don't pretend its easy to get that many dna points, rping luring your victims or otherwise it takes ages.

Erm. I don't know if you actually read the thread, but we're not, y'know. Removing any stings. Also. Tool. If anything, this makes changelings scarier. It gives them a horror element as opposed to being people who stand next to people until they fall over and turn into husks. Soo. Still don't understand what you're trying to argue here. People don't fear-rp changelings because there's nothing currently scary about changelings. The only scary is if the player chooses to add it in, aaaaand. Ours usually don't. So. Flavor texts. Already mentioned greater form. The code is pretty much lost to the ages, but I can make another shot at finding it at some point.

As far as I'm aware, the point of changelings was primarily to have a "serial killer" gamemode, where a highly elusive element goes on a killing rampage on the station.
On paper, that idea doesn't sound too bad. We should also take notes that changelings /don't/ need to use their powers, as more traditional methods of antagging are just as available to them (save for anything requiring an uplink afaik), and the powers are basically there as an extra.
This might all be worth keeping in mind when proposing changes on how to fix the gamemode: direction is what we want here. Pointing out issues is good, but knowing where we want to head is what's most important.
