Lirit “It was at least three metres long, with thick grey chitin armour covering it, Gwen could see metal plates bolted onto the creature’s back. It had six legs on its underside, layered in chitin, and another two scything claws beside its head. Its head was large, with two rows of four eyes, and a large set of mandibles, soaked in blood.” A large, hostile insectoid creature. It would be an addition to the mobs list, as well as being a low chance spawn in a random event.
Life Cycle: Larva: A small, evasive insect, similar to the spiderling, but larger and faster, it would have the hide and vent crawl abilities and move quickly; while a larvae, it doesn’t have it’s armour plating, so it is easily killed. It must accumulate biomass to progress it’s growth, it can get this by eating mice, pets, and very, very incautious people. It has a weak melee attack, as well as the ability to drink blood and consume small creatures, like mice and pets. Eating Lamaar would kill it, due to acid blood. (Needs 10 biomass to grow? Mice and lizards give 2, Ian gives 5, Runtime gives 3, humanoid gives 10, Carp give 7, spiderlings give 1, spiders give 7) It would be targeted by both Spiders and Carp, making consuming these dangerous.
Chrysalis: After accumulating enough biomass, the larva would need to find a safe place to form a chrysalis. Once a Chrysalis is formed, the adolescent would be released after two minutes. During this time, the Chrysalis is very tough, though unable to fight back, nor can the creature inside retaliate. If the Chrysalis is broken open during this time, the Larva is released to escape.
Adolescent: An adolescent Lirit is similar to a Xenomorph hunter in size, and thus still has the vent crawl ability, it attacks in melee with it’s teeth and claws, once again, it must work to obtain enough biomass to progress to it’s next stage, the adult. It’s armour plates are not yet fully formed, so it is significantly weaker than a full grown Lirit, though it is still reasonably resistant to damage, to prevent it dying too easily. It must obtain 20 biomass for this stage, using the same amounts as before. The Lirit adolescent has reasonable regenerative capabilities, and is resistant to most, if not all human chemicals. It may be able to engage a single person in combat, but it’s low health makes it easy prey if attacked by multiple people.
Second chrysalis: Once the Lirit adolescent has gained enough biomass, it must again form a chrysalis, this Chrysalis, however, is significantly tougher than the previous, and if destroyed, the adolescent emerges, rather than a larva; however, it takes five minutes for the adult Lirit to emerge.
Adult: An adult Lirit is incredibly dangerous, three metres long, with six legs, eight eyes and several sets of mandibles and claws; it is coated in heavy chitin, granting it a large degree of protection against most weapons. At this size, the Lirit is no longer able to crawl through vents; however, given sufficient time, the creature can carve through non-reinforced walls and doors, making paths for itself through the station structure. The Lirit is exceptionally quick for a creature of it’s size, however, though it’s armour is good at deflecting solid shot rounds, it is vulnerable to the overheating properties of laser and energy weapons, cooking it from the inside out.
In a round, the Lirit would spawn as a Larva, ((Unless admins decide otherwise.)) and would have to evade the crew as it grew.

I like, even if it does the trope of 'insect alien'. However, I wish we had more friendly alien things. Why can't we have like kawaii alien things that only follow you around and look adorable.
Like those frogs from Knights of the old Republic. I spent the entire game with those, even after discovering how to get rid of them.

I like this idea, very much. Sort of like a slightly less hanky, more chase it down style spider event.
A few questions though. Would the lirit larva spawn pull from the ghost pool, with their candidacy enabled, or would it be simply another AI?
And when it comes to AI, it would be difficult to program one that actively seeks out mice and lizards and small things unless you make it meta somehow? I don't know AI mechanics.
Another question is, playable or non, will they be spawnable via the secrets panel? And would it occur like a normal spider event?

It would be a player, an AI wouldn't be advanced enough.
Spawnable via secrets panel would be likely, occuring like a spider event would be down to Skull and Chris.
And Nik, I can easily make something like that, lore wise.

No matter how you program an AI, it will always be meta. It all depends on the programmer to add limits on it.
A simple AI would basically be, scan map tile by tile, if it finds a target, goto that targets tile. A more complex one would limit the scanned tiles, find distance's from a target, have a minimum attack range, and anything else that can be thought of. Making a new AI for a creature would probably be quite easy as most of the AI code is already there for animals we have already.
Other things like how to spawn them, random event, ai/player controlled(or both like monkeys, slime's, Ian, and Runtime), and anything else really can be discussed.
(Didn't notice gollee posted before me)

Gollee, I've written like four things for alien life forms that'd be player controlled and just follow people around.
It's just it'd never get added, because it's hard work, yo.

I love it. It's a great (and logical) combination of three very different types of antagonists. The larva could be the antag (borers, vox, etc.) that medbay always tries to snuggle with, and shelter it, maybe even feed it, and watch it turn on them in an instant once it comes back as the adult. The adolescent is mainly just a xeno, which is awesome. Finally, the adult is a massive murdering machine that can instantly kill any rambos, robusts, or anything of the sort and just sort of spare the RPers until the end. like Covert's space worm. Anyone who just started punching it, he just ran up and killed them. It was great.
Great idea. Two thumbs up.

Hue. Nearly forgot about this. Still fully in favor of it. Especially of the larval form was made cute and cuddly and supa kawaii, and made cute little cooing noises and purred when people them them... only to disappear into the vents for a few minutes and return as flesh-rending nightmares.

I do admit, I like this, name might need work, I feel, because a lirit sounds like some kinda delicious fruity snack.
Can you eat all the sweety Lirit cakes?

Heh, the name was something I came up with on the fly, in truth, I am not completely happy with the name, I just suck at thinking of them.

Larix Pugna, or simply "Big bug", might do. So, call them Pugs for the Civies.

Yeah, I like it. But ya gotta shorten it or have some kinda slang for them, for the non-science-ey members. Ehm, Brutus, maybe? Shellers? Smashy Bugs? I dont know.

Majestic likes this. Err'body knows Majuju is best borer. And he will like being Lirit/[insert Gollee's next choice in name for the bug thing here] larvae and being best larva.
