So, maintenance drones.
Anyone familiar with the MoMMI concept from /vg/ and Paradise will already know most of what this pitch will contain. Essentially, maintenance drones will be crippled robots whose sole purpose for existing is maintaining and improving the station; it will be a role that offers a chance to help the station out without the stress and responsibilities that come with playing a fully fledged robot or crewmember.
The actual method for becoming a drone or joining as one is still up for discussion. We could take players from ghosts like dionaea, have a central automated production plant that ghosts can click on, all kinds of things.
Now, regarding mechanics.
- CAN BE WORN AS HATS. PRAISE GABEN.
- VERY fragile (30HP).
- No brain. If one dies, it's gone for good.
- Strictly lawed against harming, interfering with or communicating with any being on the station other than fellow drones.
- Unable to communicate with anything but binary talk and say-emotes.
- Equipped similarly to an Engineering borg, but without an RCD, T-ray scanner, fire extinguisher or mesons.
- Equipped with a bottle of space cleaner and a light replacer.
- Equipped with a matter compiler (converts debris and garbage into charges for metal, wood, plastic and glass).
- Equipped with a single hand with limited functionality (place light fixtures and APCs, swap circuits in doors, etc).
- Equipped with magboots.
- Equipped with floor tiles.
- Cannot be upgraded.
- Cannot be subverted via the robot upload console (hacking one to sync it to an AI then subverting the AI will work).
- Can be emagged like other robots (and will in turn gain an emag).
This is about 80% coded and ready for a PR to dev, other than the matter compiler and single-hand manipulator. Discuss.
Yep. We need these something bad, methinks. I'll attach a poll to this post to see whether or not the rest of you feel the same as I do. Additionally, the drones are being included in the next Bay update, but they'll require a special edit to the map in order to be implemented, which is why I'm throwing this suggestion thread up.
